What do people think of Rudy?

I am due with my 3rd child this month and I really do love this name.. but have reservations about how well received it will be. I don't want to saddle my son with a name that potentially could cause problems..

I wonder if people are more aware of it as a proper name sice edith bowman had a rudy last year?

I really like it. I always forget Edith Bowman has a Rudy.

Like it but, hmm, not sure I'd be brave enough. Don't know. But do like it a a lot. Better than Randy though.

rubyslippers · 23/09/2009 19:51

I like it but prefer Rory i think

it was briefly on my boy list this time around

mwff · 23/09/2009 19:51

a message to you...

top song, not keen on name, would assume short for rudolph.

hester · 23/09/2009 19:52

It's cute. Maybe a little too cute/trendy? I like it, though. I know of a little girl called Rudy.

nickytwotimes · 23/09/2009 19:54

Nah.
It will date very quickly.

yama · 23/09/2009 19:58

The only Rudy I am aware of is the youngest child (girl) in the Cosby Show.

She was cute if a little precocious,

jenniferturkington · 23/09/2009 20:01

really really like it, but since considering it I have known of two people using it locally. Agree it will probably date quickly. Still love it though!

chegirl · 23/09/2009 21:08

inveteratenamechanger · 23/09/2009 21:09

I love it.

paisleyleaf · 23/09/2009 21:11

I really like it
I think of the Supertramp song - but that's my age.

feedthegoat · 23/09/2009 21:12

I'm not keen. We were only discussing this name at work last week as someones sil has just named her ds Rudy and noone really liked the name.

pattymc · 23/09/2009 21:12

love it but for a girl not boy

Bathsheba · 23/09/2009 21:14

Its, like most names, an association thing...

I know one, his mother thinks she is some sort of princess gracing us with her presence every time she turns up scowling at something dressed like a WAG...

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 23/09/2009 21:17

i like it

I like it but I would be wary of using it in parts of the country.

We were in the local park a few weeks ago when my dc and their friends started playing with another boy. I over heard their conversation with the boy. He happened to be called Rudy - and after the other dc had finished with him I felt quite sorry. went along the lines of Ruby is a girls name/are you rude/that's not really a name.

However we live in an area where everyone is called Josh, max and oliver and if you are called anything else people can't cope!

MaggieBeauLeo · 23/09/2009 22:08

I like it. Sadie Frost has one too, so a sleb name! but it is nice. go for it. It's not apple.

ButtercupWafflehead · 23/09/2009 22:09

I know a Rudy, nickname for Reuben.

I think of it as more of a nickname, to be honest.

MaggieBeauLeo · 23/09/2009 22:10

I like Reuben and Rory too.

What about Reuben Diarmuid (eg) with nn rudy?

4andnotout · 23/09/2009 22:13

I like it a lot.

dogonpoints · 23/09/2009 22:16

not keen

hulabula · 23/09/2009 22:23

Don't like it at all. I also know too many Rudolf's aged about 50-60yrs, so to me it's too early for a 'revival'.

dizzydixies · 23/09/2009 23:11

Rudy nn for Reuben has been on our list for all 3 of our DD's

and I wouldn't count Edith Bowman as influential enough to make you think twice about a name tbh

AnotherBloodySugaBabe · 24/09/2009 09:11

Love it. We nearly called our son Rudy. I know a little girl called Rudi, too. Very cute.

I think of 'A Message to you...' and Rudi Huxtable from The Cosbys before I think of Edith Bowman
