I'd be very grateful for your thoughts on the name Rosie. I'm assuming that it is univerally adored - am I right??

I love it and wanted it for one our DD's but DH thought it sounded like a hooker

mwff · 23/09/2009 16:37

too twee for an adult imo - rose or rosa or rosemary all better and can still use it as shortening.

YummyorSlummy · 23/09/2009 16:37

Lol@ hooker! its a lovely name but completely ruined in my head by Rosie Webster in Corrie. Ridiculous seeing as it's only a character!

Agree mwff - nice for a little girl but I can't see an adult Rosie cutting it in the boardroom, or the art/music studio for that matter.

It's been ruined for my by Rosie and Jim and Coronoation Street.

TheHeadbangingWombat · 23/09/2009 16:51

It has a nice sound but it makes me think of the song 'Whole Lotta Rosie'. I don't think I'd use it.

msrisotto · 23/09/2009 16:56

I adore rosie. I'd actually name a daughter Rose though as then she can be a serious adult aswell! Odd that I reckon a Rosie isn't a serious enough name but hey are there ever proper reasons behind what we like and don't like?

BitOfFun · 23/09/2009 17:00

I call my dd2 Rosie- her full title is the Irish Roisin. It really suits her as a redhead.

BitOfFun · 23/09/2009 17:01

Oh, and mum is called Rose, so it's a family name too.

MadreInglese · 23/09/2009 17:02

I love it

or you could go for Rose, Rosa or Rosalie but use Rosie

TheHeadbangingWombat · 23/09/2009 17:03

I agree that Rose is better.

lucky1979 · 23/09/2009 21:42

I'm a Rosalind IRL, growing up I was always Rosie.

While my family, and DH and old friends I'm still Rosie, but at work and generally now I use Rose - Rosie doesn't sound professional to me at all, it's either a little girl or a fat yorkshire woman in her 50s (neither of which I am! )

I'd prefer Rosalind nowadays TBH but it always gets shortened to Roz, which I loathe.

In conclusion - give her options for when she's older, she'll thank you for it.

CuppaTeaJanice · 23/09/2009 21:50

It's fine, but there are far, far too many Rosies around at the moment. She'll end up being called by a nickname.

girlsyearapart · 23/09/2009 21:52

I think it's my dd2s name and I love it!
The two other RL Rosies I know are
1.) a vvv top exec sports broadcastery type bod at the BBC. Taught her children to swim.
2.) a paediatric playworker on the allergy testing wards where I take said DD.

Both worthy jobs I think..

StretchFucksTheMailDaily · 23/09/2009 21:54

DD1 is Rosie. Obv, I love it!!

StretchFucksTheMailDaily · 23/09/2009 21:55

She is a redhead too, BOF, I think it suits her perfectly.

cilldara · 23/09/2009 21:55

Hey bitOfFun, my DD is Róisín too. And we call her Rosie. Just love her name. Suits her so well.

Lovely but it's my cat's name. If your baby catches mice it will be fine

Pingpong · 23/09/2009 22:00

I like Rosie as a nn but like 'proper' names. Like the others have said it gives your little girl choices in life depending on what they want to do.

Theteathings · 23/09/2009 22:11

I love this name. It isn't twee, makes me think of Rosie Boycott. .

I would consider it for my dd but it's got very popular hasn't it.

dogonpoints · 23/09/2009 22:18

yes, its' nice. Prefer Rose and Rosa

smother · 23/09/2009 23:10

so I see that Rosie is too sweet/twee for some then. hmmm. what about all the other flowery names, like Poppy or Daisy - are they also a bit too much on the cutesy not-to-be-taken seriously-as-an-adult side?

shabbapinkfrog · 23/09/2009 23:12

Rosie and Jim are brilliant!!

Rosie from Coronation Street needs a damn good hiding

After 4 sons if I had a girl she would have to have a very girly name xxx

Pingpong · 23/09/2009 23:14

oh please no Rosie is much better than Poppy, Daisy, Maisy etc
