Hello - can I guage opinion on Oscar? I really like it, but feel I am hearing it everywhere these days. Is it "on the up"?

I like it but I think where we are, it is 'up, rather than 'on the up'.

Check out the national statistics for baby names for the past few years..it has shot up. Not shure where it's going now, but of course it's a fab name.

V popular in pre schoolers round here.

warthog · 14/09/2009 18:12

cat

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 14/09/2009 18:14

Definitely one of the most popular names around here - two in my child's class.

LovelyTinOfSpam · 14/09/2009 18:20

V popular around here.

LovelyTinOfSpam · 14/09/2009 18:21

Love your name BTW vanillaice

hellokitty123 · 14/09/2009 21:23

It has become VERY common here (Surrey) - 3 Oscar's in my ds's nursery group of 35!

Ewe · 14/09/2009 21:25

I know about five, also in Surrey (actually one of them is in Cambridge).

NorbertDentressangle · 14/09/2009 21:26

Quite popular here too but it reminds me of a dogs name

LittleMissWorryHead · 15/09/2009 08:57

If you go to the ONS website, I think Oscar went up 10 places in the last year. That made me happier that i didn't pick it for DS2 I admit......but I think its a lovely name and if I ever had DC4 he would be an Oscar.

kittybrown · 15/09/2009 09:21

I love him to bits but then he is my son.

My Oscar is 10 and the only one in the school of 400ish. I think they must all live in Surrey.

persephoneplum · 15/09/2009 09:41

I love Oscar! We loved it for a second boy... pity we already had a Felix ;)

Nevertheless, we used in the middle spot for our second boy - it was a family name. It's quite popular (but not uber-popular) around here, but I don't think that makes it lose any of its charm.

suwoo · 15/09/2009 09:50

My new DS is called Felix Oscar. The kind MNetters informed me of the 'odd couple' connecton. I chose to ignore those opinions .

MrsBadger · 15/09/2009 09:54

popular and IMo slightly poncey

we were in Surrey at the weekend and there were indeed lots of them

HigherThanAWombat · 15/09/2009 10:05

I love it. It is very popular though.

Nancy10 · 15/09/2009 11:02

It's quite sweet for a little boy but I can't imagine a grown man called Oscar. I do associate it with pet names though!

MsHighwater · 15/09/2009 11:03

I like it so much we gave it to one of our cats. the other one is Felix.

Nancy10 · 15/09/2009 11:16

(grin) (grin) to MsHighwater.

Acanthus · 15/09/2009 11:16

It's a cat's name

MummyCruz · 21/09/2009 09:13

I had a cat called Oscar.

Pingpong · 21/09/2009 09:18

sorry suwoo I have to agree with MsHighwater Felix and Oscar are cat names!
I also think Oscar is a bit poncey but that's just me - I don't live in Surrey BTW and I know no one called Oscar although nephew has it as a middle name. This side of the family were all a little surprised with the choice!

Grisette · 21/09/2009 09:38

All the Oscars I know are naughty!

AstronomyDomine · 21/09/2009 09:40

he's Wilde.

Loujalou · 21/09/2009 18:25

My cousin's dog is called Oscar.
