I think of it as a surname, although I don't dislike it.

Tommy · 06/09/2009 21:52

don't like it

although I am not a fan of surnames as first names generally. If you like it though, go for it.

am not sure, it reminds me of the cartoon Dennis I think where the next door neighbour was called Wilson

now, I'm not completely adverse to surnames being used as first names however I don't think this would be top of my list to use

sorry, I realise that its a crap answer

Dumbledoresgirl · 06/09/2009 21:53

It is my fil's name. I hate it.

boodleboot · 06/09/2009 21:55

DH deceased father was called william but we both have a strong connection to a man William Wilson and i would like to honor him in some way too....so i figured we both like Will in the Shortform so could have Wilson as a long form.....does that make any sense?

Wilson is Dr House's friend's name.

I quite like it, it's a very grownup name (and so many people choose names for babies, not names for the adults their babies will turn into).

NotanOtter · 06/09/2009 21:56

not my fave

Pickett though who is nice

dizzydixies · 06/09/2009 21:57

Curly - its his surname though not his first name

dogofpoints · 06/09/2009 22:01

I don't like it. I know of two adult wilsons

PestoSurfMonster · 06/09/2009 22:02

It's that old chap off Dad's Army

moondog · 06/09/2009 22:03

Norralot.

(DG, you crack me up. Are you really deadpan in RL? )

Boco · 06/09/2009 22:05

Never thought much of it until meeting a 5 year old Wilson who is so cute. He's tiny with a really deep voice and very funny. So, now I like it.

lol. Now that's a dog who suits Wilson

rek21 · 06/09/2009 22:13

It's my dh's middle name and was his grandfather's (born 1920s-ish) first name. I don't have strong feelings about it, but I think it's a legit first name, not just surname.

Goober · 06/09/2009 22:14

Are you naming a butler or a baby?

nevergoogledragonbutter · 06/09/2009 22:15

i think dennis's neighbour too.

i'm not keen but it might be a grower.

maniacbug · 06/09/2009 22:25

Ooh, am going to go against general consensus here - I really like it! One of my son's choices for new baby if it's a boy.... but that's based entirely on the fact that it's the red train in Chuggington (his favourite colour) - important to be aware of these things! Must confess not a fan of William at all - seem to know loads aged from 1 month to 10 years (all known as Will). Know a Wilf(red) too, which on the other hand (IMO) is lovely.

Dumbledoresgirl · 06/09/2009 22:26

LOL Moondog, not at all! I think I would come across as slightly breathlessly hysterical with people I did not know, and very sharp and somewhat cutting with people I did know. Deadpan, not at all.

I was going to say more in my first post viz that although it is my fil's name and I hate it, those 2 statements were not necessarily connected, but then I decided not to say too much (unlike in this post!)

moondog · 06/09/2009 22:28

Dig that hole you are in a bit deeper, gal!

mathanxiety · 07/09/2009 01:47

Reminds me of Dennis the Menace. It's a name used for reasons I can't understand in hispanic circles in the US. Maybe Woodrow Wilson?

Tortington · 07/09/2009 01:52

i like it - remnds me of wilson pickett

crumpette · 07/09/2009 07:06

I can only think of 'castaway' with Tom Hanks......

Meglet · 07/09/2009 07:37

Its painfuly cool. I like it.
