Is Rowan OK for a girl?

And any ideas for middle names?
(Still undecided on names for the twins...sorry if you contributed to this thread a month ago!)

So far have: Arthur John and Henry Paul if 2 boys

Daisy Kate for a girl
But if it's 2 girls...... Daisy Kate and
Rowan ?

What do you think?

all the Rowans I know are girls.

ZippysMum · 26/08/2009 18:06

Hi Riven! Thanks. When DH asked for 'famous' Rowans, I could only think of Rowan Atkinson.

I am and honoured to have you on my thread!! (secret stalker of your wise words).

I think Brooke Shields' dd is called Rowan ( that I know this)

mollyroger · 26/08/2009 18:09

more than ok. It is beautiful. It was what I wished to call my dd. But I had boys instead. And it didn't suit them.

Rowan May?
Rowan Eve?

ZippysMum · 26/08/2009 18:10

Thanks Saadia.
Aha - I will let DH know . He is then likely to ask "Who is Brooke Shields"
(that's what comes of not having a telly! - we are soooo out of touch..)

I know a Rowan, she's a grown lady, thought her name was very unusual when I heard it many years ago.

Rowan Eve is a good suggestion.

ZippysMum · 26/08/2009 18:13

Hi Mollyroger,
Glad you like Rowan . I can't believe that with 3 weeks to go we are still agonising over names!
My new Dniece (3 months) has May as a middle name, but I really love Eve. Sounds good with our surname too.

I will add it to the list!!!!

The only famous Rowans I can think of are Rowan Atkinson and the character from the Wicker Man (on the fictional Summerisle, all children are named after trees and plants).

As for middle names, how about Rowan Regina? Rowan Marie?

mollyroger · 26/08/2009 18:14

Mamalazarou - it's my fave film

MaryBS · 26/08/2009 18:16

Also Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury...

ZippysMum · 26/08/2009 18:16

Ooooooh. The Wicker Man. I saw the Nicholas Cage version and I was even more disturbed for weeks afterwards.

mollyroger · 26/08/2009 18:19

no no forget that version. That version does not exist...it is the worst remake ever

let's go back to names, shall we

ZippysMum · 26/08/2009 18:24

Surely not worse than the re-make of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?? The remake was tooooo sinister for words. (But perhaps I should get out more )

mollyroger · 26/08/2009 18:26

Ha! See, I quite liked that. But maybe that's more than a little to do with Johnny Depp

shubiedoo · 26/08/2009 18:30

A friend of mine named her daughter Rowyn. I thought it was pretty and not as androgynous.

magbags · 26/08/2009 18:48

I know a little girl called Rowan and think it's definetely a feminine name. Good luck with your twins!

ZippysMum · 26/08/2009 18:59

Thanks shubie and magbags.
I knew a (female) Rowan at school but have never met one since then.

OP posts:
Thunderduck · 26/08/2009 19:12

I don't like it as a girl's name.

GreensleevesFlouncedLikeAKnob · 26/08/2009 19:12

I love it for a girl

but then I love androgynous names

notevenamousie · 26/08/2009 19:16

I think it's a lovely girls name - I know one and she pronounces it Row(as in argue)an rather than Row(as in boat)an which makes it a different name iyswim.

kitkatqueen · 26/08/2009 19:21

Famous Rowans??? What about "The Rowan" by Anne Macaffery. Absolutly fabulous book. Superb name, go for it!

I love the name! It's so pretty. Maybe balance out the possible androgyny with an extra feminine sounding middle name? Sophia, Lacey, Jasmine...?

dogofpoints · 26/08/2009 19:24

I absloutely love Rowan for a girl (Row-an to rhyme with cow). It's reasonably popula rin scotland.

ZippysMum · 26/08/2009 19:25

But surely it would be Rowana if it was m/f versions? Like Michael and Michaela?
