And any ideas for middle names?
(Still undecided on names for the twins...sorry if you contributed to this thread a month ago!)

So far have: Arthur John and Henry Paul if 2 boys

Daisy Kate for a girl
But if it's 2 girls...... Daisy Kate and
Rowan ?

What do you think?

ZippysMum · 26/08/2009 19:27

R -ow
Rhymes with pow/cow/now

yes yes, lovely

ChairmumMiaow · 26/08/2009 19:29

We have a DS who is Rowan James but think it is equally lovely for a girl Definitely like boat-rowing here though.

Possible second names:

Ellen
Amelia
Alice

ChairmumMiaow · 26/08/2009 19:30

although you could also have Rowena - from Ivanhoe -which I think is even more beautiful for a girl

notagrannyyet · 26/08/2009 19:31

I've always thought of Rowan as a boys name.

I would always avoid any name which is used for both genders.

WoTmania · 26/08/2009 19:35

I love Rowan shortened to Roe for girls.
Famous(ish) Rowan is Rowan Pelling.

laneyjay · 26/08/2009 19:35

I teach 3 Rowans - all girls! Really nice name

Pingpong · 26/08/2009 19:36

Agree Rowan is more popular in Scotland than elsewhere and think that for girls it's pronounced Row-an as in row rhyming with cow and Ro-an as in row the boat for boys - like Rowan Atkinson.
I know a Rowan girl and Roan boy both born in the last 9 months.
I like it

MamaLazarou · 26/08/2009 19:36

Oooh, good taste, mollyroger.

GreensleevesFlouncedLikeAKnob · 26/08/2009 19:36

Rowan is a unisex name

ZippysMum · 26/08/2009 19:38

I love Rowan for a girl. I met one once (an adult) and she was very glamorous and interesting.

Wink
ZippysMum · 26/08/2009 19:43

Ah yes, glamorous and interesting would be great. And obviously career-minded (something that makes a lot of money) and keen to support her dear old folks in their old age...

Rowan is a lovely name, for both a boy or a girl.

ZippysMum · 26/08/2009 19:46

Thanks for all the feedback. Must go do dinner now but will check back later.

Rowan is a beautiful name. Ours (girl) is row as in boat. I think any middle name goes with it tbh.

boodleboot · 26/08/2009 20:15

I really like Rowan Williams so would consider it for a boy.....i don't think it is particularly pretty sounding for a girl but liked shubiedoo friend spelling of Rowyn....spesh as you can then have Wynnie as nickname....i am slightly obsessed with nickname Wynnie...

Get hold of the Antonia Forest books. Autumn term, attic term, cricket term and a few more. Great Rowan female role model!

I love Rowan as a girls name. Went to uni with a Rowan and she was lovely. I would pronounce it like the tree rowan. Rowantree sweets is the only slight drawback - maybe a little teasing possible there? But as long as your surname isn't fruit pastille she'll be fine

All your suggested names are two syllables (sp?) and then one syllable for the middle name. So something like Jane, Anne, Eve, might work as a middle name.

mollyroger · 26/08/2009 21:40

it's a sodding tree!!! How can it be male or female...

blithedance · 26/08/2009 21:56

our very own Policywonk is a Rowan IIRC. I know Rowan's of both genders and I think it's a great name.
