At the moment we're leaning toward Alexander James, but is that just a bit dull?
My DH also loves Redd, which IMHO is going too far the other way.
Suggestions welcome!

Ramsay is the surname.
Thanks for all the suggestions, several we hadn't thought of, including Forbes and Logan. I like Euan too.

FAQinglovely, you should be ashamed!!! Gordon indeed...

gigglewitch · 20/07/2009 23:02

ooh, I know a Murdock too. and my parents have a friend named Tevin, Glaswegian 100%

KristinaM · 20/07/2009 23:07

all lovely names here ( unusual for a Mn names thread)

except for your Dhs suggestion of Redd, which is bonkers. i suggest you ignore him in future

Murray and Finlay are great names but not with Ramsey, 2x2 sylables and repetition of sounds not good IMHO

here are all the names given in Scotland last year

Alexander was 11th but personally i woulndt let that put me off as its lovely . although sandy ramsey not good, he woudl need to be an Alex. Or even a wee Ek

i like redd.

it's got character.

expatinscotland · 21/07/2009 00:01

Wait, you used Ramsay as your first son's forename?

Are you American?

In which case, well, then name him anything you like! Make it up and say it's Scottish, most people there wouldn't know a real Scottish person if she came up and gave them a Glesgae kiss.

expatinscotland · 21/07/2009 00:02

I like Coinneach. Call him that. If I ever had another son, that's what I'd call him.

That's a good Scottish name.

FAQinglovely · 21/07/2009 00:03

ermm expat - she says that Ramsay is the surname.........

"Ramsay is the surname."

expatinscotland · 21/07/2009 00:05

Um, thanks FAQ. Sorry.

I still say, call him Coinneach .

expatinscotland · 21/07/2009 00:09

None, that's the saddest of it.

DS is up with teething and I just wasted precious minutes of my life watching the 2nd in the Fast and the Furious series.

At least it was free!

Scotia · 21/07/2009 00:09

Ramsay is the surname Expat

I like Alexander Ramsay, it's got a nice strong sound to it. I also like Struan or Andrew with Ramsay.

Scotia · 21/07/2009 00:11

Oh sorry for the cross posting

FAQinglovely · 21/07/2009 00:12

actually just seen your post on dizzymares thread and realised you couldn't be drunk - wise words of wisdom (again) from you

thumbwitch · 21/07/2009 00:13

my first thought was MacDonald as well, so how about Donald?

Alexander James is classical, not dull. If you look at the wikipedia entry you'll see that there were several brave Alexander Ramsays through history.

Alistair
Struan
Stuart

expatinscotland · 21/07/2009 00:16

how about Alistair? Instead of Alexander?

i have a Struan. he's up with teething just now, at 8 months, and still entirely lovely and cuddly.

expatinscotland · 21/07/2009 00:17

how about Dougal? i know a Dougal and he's a lovely boy.

Metatron · 21/07/2009 00:51

Douglas
Craig
Rhuari
Alasdair

MrsGokWantstogotoHogwarts · 21/07/2009 08:11

How about Piper?

BikeRunSki · 21/07/2009 10:24

Mungo

KristinaM · 21/07/2009 16:25

the dougal i know is a retired professor [sticks tongue out at expat]and he is also lovely

expat, i didnt knwo your Ds was a Struan, that's a wonderful name

now you have to have a Dd to call her Rowan

so many of these names i wanted for our boys but counsins or db or BIL stole them

marmoset · 21/07/2009 17:03

Jamie, Charlie (as in Bonny prince), Grant, Craig, Angus all nice too. i like Alexander too- it is one of my ds middle names.

boodleboot · 21/07/2009 20:04
