I thought we had decided :(

I thought we were settled on Felix Arthur (section in 16 days) but sent a text today to DH suggesting Felix Oscar.

He now prefers Oscar Felix and says he likes Oscar a lot more than Felix.

I know we can wait until we see what he looks like but what does the MN jury think?

Felix Oscar
Oscar Felix

Disclaimer: I've had enough references to the cat food to last me a lifetime .

I prefer Arthur Felix

jemart · 14/07/2009 22:06

Oscar sounds more manly than Felix.
Arthur is nice but doesn't sit well with Oscar.
do you have any other middle names in mind?

sonniboo · 14/07/2009 22:06

Of all your suggestions, suwoo, I prefer Arthur, Monty and Jasper, all of which are lovely, classic names that aren't too common and have no cat/dog or Odd Couple associations .

suwoo · 14/07/2009 22:10

sonniboo. Arthur is out as a first name as DH can't say his TH's. Monty and Jasper score too highly on DH's ponceometer.

Nope, no other middle names. I think we will end up with Felix Arthur or Felix Oscar.

Felix Arthur

Stop being such a control freak and just see what he suits when he's born. I know you need to have the name sorted, but you're nearly there.

BikeRunSki · 15/07/2009 13:10

Oscar - loads round here too.

Felix and Oscar together in either combo - a bit too "trying too hard".

Felix Arthur - Lovely.

Fimbo · 15/07/2009 13:14

I know a lovely little Oscar, he is Polish so it is spelt Oskar.

suwoo · 15/07/2009 13:32

I thought that Felix Arthur sounds more 'try hard' than Felix Oscar.

There may also be a second middle name thrown into the mix- Ashworth.

Felix Arthur Ashworth W
Felix Oscar Ashworth W

I like them all

flowerybeanbag · 15/07/2009 14:31

I really wouldn't bother trying to finalise it any further. You already have a very short shortlist, just leave it at that and see what suits him when he comes out.

With DS1 we had a final shortlist of two, but he clearly wasn't either of those two when he arrived, so we had to wheel our longlist out again, and lo and behold, one of those was clearly his name. So no point being too definite beforehand ime.

See, flowery, that's what I was trying to say!

MamaLazarou · 15/07/2009 14:44

"I've had enough references to the cat food to last me a lifetime"

But you're still prepared to subject yourself (and DS) to them for many years to come?

suwoo · 15/07/2009 14:45

Yep!

So true though isn't it PJ?

I tried for a good few hours to call DS either of the two shortlisted names before acknowledging that they just weren't right and opening my mind to names previously rejected.

I do like both Felix and Oscar but I probably wouldn't have both.

Pinkjenny · 15/07/2009 15:01

And as I said to suwoo on Monday whilst standing in her kitchen (!), when dd was born, it was immediately obvious what she should be called. I think just view the names that you like as a shortlist, and see what feels right.

Congrats though, flowery, I see it's another boy! Ds will be delighted!

bamboobutton · 15/07/2009 15:08

my ds is an Oscar so to me it's the best name

and in all my 29 years i have never, ever heard of a dog called oscar!

flowerybeanbag · 15/07/2009 15:10

Yes, another boy. It was extremely obvious at the scan, he's clearly a little exhibitionist!

We have told DS now about a baby coming, although not that its a boy yet. He now delights in saying 'helloooo baby!' to my belly button...

cyteen · 15/07/2009 15:19

Felix Arthur sounds best, especially with Ashworth - it breaks up the S sounds, whereas Oscar just adds too many more.

magbags · 17/07/2009 17:07

Have you decided what to go for Suwoo? I am being swayed back to Felix now too by dh.

sockmonster · 17/07/2009 19:19

Felix Arthur was the best, as long as your surname doesn't start with 'T'

Felix Oscar 2nd best, imo. I like the latin roots of Felix meaning happiness. The only Felix I know is a very intelligent spanish man in his late 40s. It's a great name.

Had my hair cut recently, hairdresser's friend had just had an oscar and her sister was about to call her baby oscar when it arrives in sept. Also, Oscar the grouch (gotta love him) but still... lives in a trash can..

sockmonster · 17/07/2009 19:23

What I am trying to say is, Felix and Oscar, whichever way around sound a little strange/'try-hard' together, in my opinion.

I think either on their own is fine.

DebiNewberry · 17/07/2009 19:25

I like Art

but agree that you need to get your eyes on him.

LaDiDaDi · 17/07/2009 20:29

Felix Arthur Ashworth sounds great imo.

Felix Oscar Ashworth less so.
