Ellerby for a girl?

This is kind of a made up name i like (but DH has totally vetoed- sob).

I love the name Ella but with our surname it sounds a bit wrong as too many vowel sounds, so I came up with this. Seems its a place in Yorkshire (ooops!) or a surname but not really a first name.

Just wondered what Mnetters thought of it...

I hate to say this - it goes against all my babyname principles, but I do have a friend called Ellery.

She was named after a fictional male American detective!

I hate it - it sounds like a type of sheep which would, typically, be bred in north Yorkshire.
The best specimens would have black legs and faces, and would win many prizes for gnarled old farmers who talk about "tupping" the wife.
And that's ME saying this....and I contemplated the name Tostig.
Ellery's not too bad.

Or, Eleri (accent on the "er" syllable).
It's Welsh....can't remember what it means.

It does sound made up.

Elle/Ella/Ellen are lovely, so is Eleri and Elodie.

We've got an Elodie round here - French family.
She gave DS a jammie dodger recently, and he followed her around the park for half an hour....gazing up in adoration.
Gets my vote.

Based on the verdicts of Mnetters its a good Job DH said no then! Eleri reminds me of celery so thats a no.

I like Ella May but it can be southern american drawl sounding name! Can just be Ella as our surname sounds wrong with it- needs a middle bit to detract from too many vowel sounds.

Or Mia/Maya can never decide nicest way to spell/pronounce.

Elodie's my pick...Ella's a bit overdone, but if you can find a suitable middle name...........

I don't like Elodie as had a friend in France by that name and she could be very annoying!

DH is obsessed with Queen so the current running joke is Ella Brian May OurSurname(but with a "silent Brian"- hence Ella. B. May which got turned to Ellerby) and Alfred Mercury Our Surname. But I think thats a bit mean!

In choosing DS' middle name, I suggested Yngwe (Malmsteen) "aww, go on, it'd be a right laugh".
Cue polite disapproval and "It's a name, not a joke" from DP and his chum (who LOATHES DS' first name).
At least Bulsara wasn't on the table. Ouch.

'silent Brian'

My DD2s middle name is Elemy.

Completely made up - we said DD1 could choose her middle name, it was supposed to be Emily but DD1 couldn't say Emily and kept saying Elemy.

Have met one. We all thought she was "Ella B". Will lead to a lifetime of confusion.

I love elemy! brilliant name! Bet DH will say no to that too.

A friend of mine once described me as "elemental" which I love and decided to take as a compliment so it kind of fits nicely with me!

I like the Queen approach to naming baby - Delilah? Magic? Rhapsody?

I love the idea of a 'silent Brian". I think I will give my ds a 'silent Horace"
