we did like myles but not so sure anymore so have the following names we like, please be nice!
Elwood-Eli/woody as nn
Elias-again Eli as nn
Myles-though not sure anymore as dd leaked the name and everyone keeps calling baby by this name now which is irritating as he's not here yet!
Francis-i like but dp thinks given baby will have a very irish surname is too irish sounding, which sounds stupid given his suggestion below...
Shamus- as either middle name or fist name. we want 'james' in there after my brother but thought shamus would be nice instead as dp is half irish so a bit of both! also my sister has just used it for her baby!
any other suggestions or combinations welcome!

Seamus is Irish for James so can't see that that would work. I don't think Shamus is a legitimate spelling of the name either (although happy to be corrected!)

Of your list I prefer Elwood but doesn't that have Blues Brother's connotations?

i prefer the look of seamus, but spelt that way it means jacob, spelling it shamus means james. i know we're awkward!

Myles is a surname (although I think there's something in Greek mythology too). Miles is better.

Elwood is a surname again.

Elias is okay.

Francis is a good, strong name.

yes dp picked the name because of blues brothers! we wouldn't use both either shamus or james!

Shamus looks odd, prefer the spelling Seamus,but not sure on the actual name.

The only one I really like is Francis, but that is because I met a little boy called Franklin the other day and he was adorable.

eeek in our baby name book it is spelt shamus for james seamus for jacob...maybe the books wrong it is old! i've just been getting the spellings out of the book!

you know James and Jacob mean the same thing though? ("he grasps the heel" - from the story of Jacob and Esau in the Bible, which figuratively means "he decieves", apparently).

Seamus is the Irish form of James, not Jacob. "Shamus" is dreadful.

My friend has named her Lil one Elias...thats the only one I like from your list. Its simple yet different

I think Elwood is a pretty cool name, I like names that you can vary eg Eli/Woody. Elwood James is good .

Not so keen on Francis as it can be mistaken as Frances so would always be asked whether it's IS/ES. I know that I never know which way round the spellings should be lol.

Myles is better than Miles, looks like a name rather than a word.

Defo think Elwood is my fave tho, think you would suit an Elwood x

I loathe the name Miles but like others, really like Eli and Woody for nicknames.
