I'm due around Xmas / New Year and love the girls name Holly but is it a bit cheesy to name a Christmas baby Holly?

I like the name Holly. Of course, you could go for Ivy... Or Natalie, Natalia?

FrankMustard · 18/05/2009 13:28

No, I think it's a lovely name for a Christmas baby!
You'll see on other name threads that quite a lot of people associate it with Christmas, so it would be perectly acceptable - and a very nice name to have!

Teebeexxx · 18/05/2009 13:31

Thanks guys - I already have a sister called Natalie so can't go for that and i'm not sure on Ivy. I like Holly though.

Had ds been a girl we were thinking of Noeli

sockmonster · 18/05/2009 13:38

Ivy is poisonous, right? Avoid. Holly is cute and nice if baby arrives at Christmas. Otherwise, I like Noelia (spanish name) or variations thereof. I think it's the only time of year that you can get away with being quite cheesy. I'd avoid a blatantly festive name if baby arrives after 25th December though.

What about Robyn - not too cheesily Xmassy

FrankMustard · 18/05/2009 14:51

Or Lucia?
But Holly's nice IMO.

jellybeans · 19/05/2009 11:38

Noelle is nice. I like Holly.

nowwearefour · 19/05/2009 11:42

Holly is a fantasic name. You are lucky to be able to use it!!

belgo · 19/05/2009 11:43

Holly is lovely. Or Ivy or Robin.

cazinski · 19/05/2009 14:08

I love Holly! Especially for Christmas time, wish I'd have got that instead of Carol- I was the week before xmas!

mum2boys2girls · 20/05/2009 17:52

My xmas baby is Holly I always sign her name with a little holly leaf next to it she is seven now and does it too

PrammyMammy · 20/05/2009 17:57

I am Holly but was born in July. Everyone asks if i was a Christmas baby.
Go for it.

ProfYaffle · 20/05/2009 18:03

I have a friend with a Christmas name (not Holly) and she was born on Christmas Eve, people tend not to make the connection though

I think Holly's a lovely name.

amberflower · 22/05/2009 19:17

I have to confess that my baby is due in October and if she's a girl she'll be Holly.

DS was born in July and if he'd been a girl he'd have been Holly!

I have never considered it a name only 'usable' for Christmas babies to be honest...it's just a beautiful name. If you like it, use it!

Tinker · 22/05/2009 19:24

Carol. Dare you to revive the Carol trend

girlandboy · 22/05/2009 19:30

My Holly was born in September, and it is assumed by lots of people that she has a Christmas birthday. Especially as her middle name is Eve. People think her birthday is December 24th.

She was conceived around Christmas though

Go for it - it's a lovely name.

BexieID · 22/05/2009 22:04

I'm due on the 22nd and quite like the name Holly but it's the name of one of SILs cats!

plimple · 22/05/2009 22:06

I have a friend called Holly Berry. She's certainly not cheesy. My Dad's middle name is Carol as he was born at Christmas. That's not cheesy, that's cruel.

PrammyMammy · 22/05/2009 23:46

Plimple, my Aunts middle name is Ronald, there are some evil grannies out there!

< sorry OT >

plimple · 23/05/2009 01:19

Aunty Ronald!! Ha ha

Marne · 23/05/2009 12:27

Holly's a great name and its my dd's name, she's not a christmas baby, dh chose her name before i knew i was pg.

redsky · 23/05/2009 12:33

I like Holly for a christmas baby - good name at any time and the christmas connection doesn't make it cheesy imo.

teddygirl23 · 01/07/2009 17:07

my baby was born christmas eve 08 and we named her holly. she wasnt due to jan and had picked something else, but holly just seemed perfect name when she arrived. i think its a lovley name.

Greensleeves · 01/07/2009 17:10
