I'm due around Xmas / New Year and love the girls name Holly but is it a bit cheesy to name a Christmas baby Holly?

I knew twins born on christmas day who were named Nicholas and Noel - I know they wished thier parents hadn't been so cheesy.

I know it's going agianst the grain here but I do think Holly is too cheesy for a christmas baby. I'm due on December 27th and get Holly suggested all the time but I wouldn't dream of using it

celyn is welsh for holly....

but i love holly, and think its lovely for a christmassy baby.

TwoSunnyDays · 01/07/2009 18:06

I would probably relegate it to a middle name Too cheesy for me as well.

Do not pick Natalie, everyone drops the t and makes it sound awful.

I like Holly, but prefer Natalie or Natalia if you want a 'Christmas' association.

DS2 was a due at Christmas but turned up late baby. He was born on New Year's Day and is named Rowan - it's a winter tree too. I was going to use Rowan for either gender, I love it.

ooh holly a lovely name ,you could always spell it hollie ,go for it

piscesmoon · 02/07/2009 07:20

I like it but spell it properly!

Holly is ok, and not cheesey, but I like Noelle for a Christmas name!

I used to live in Wales and work with babies and there was a baby called Llawen. Merry Christmas in Welsh is Nadolig Llawen and my colleague explained to me that she had never heard the name Llawen before, (or it might have been a really old fashioned name) and was essentially like calling their baby 'Merry'. She thought it was very sweet.

I like HOlly. I also like Ivy and Robin and Noelle, and Natalia and Eve and Christmas and Stephanie (St Stephen's day is 26th December). OK Christmas is pushing it! but she could be Christa which is lovely.

bumper, You would see irish xmas cards with Nollaig Shona in the middle and the Shona part means happy and is a name. Nollaig is also a name, but it's very rare. Don't know any. I know a couple of Shonas though.
