how important are intials when naming your baby?

I'm about to have a baby girl. It's been really hard choosing a name and the name we'd really love to call her will give her the initials MAN.

Do you think this is a reason not to use this name? Or do you think it doesn't matter that much?

I think it's fine. It's not ARSE for example.

I don't see a problem with MAN. My dd2 has the initials LAD, one person seemed to think it was funny, I ignored her, no one has ever commented on it since.

It's not the same as having initials that spell something rude.

Initials are important - there are jobs where you have to initial your work, for example. MAN isn't so bad though. It's not like MAD or BUM.

It really doesn't matter unless it's something rude or really embarrasing.

It's fine. I know a bloke whose surname is Penison and the first five letters on his driving licence gave us cause for a teenage snigger. Not much he can do about that but will give a copper a gift if he's ever stopped.

thanks, this is very reassuring.

the reason i got thinking about it is that people have pointed it out in a negative way when i discuss possible names... but i guess that in everyday life it might not come up so much.

i worry about it a bit but i don't think it's that crucial. like people say, provided it isn't rude i think you're ok.

I got an extra middle name so my initials wouldn't be HAG!

My parents nearly gave me a middle name beginning with A - one of the reasons they didn't in the end was that it would give me the initials JAM.
If they had, when I married, I would have become a JAR....

My uncle is ASS.
I do think that one should have been avoided. MAN is fine though.

my mum doesnt get it, when i was about 18 she saw a personalised number plate for sale that was something like nob 123 or whatever, and seriously asked if i would like it for my car - wtf?!

Our dd has the initials MCID and we chose it because it will make a good rapper name for her (OK, that wasn't the main reason, but it was the reason for the arrangemet of the middle names!)

On my list of baby names for girls was Bo Grace.

It would've been BoG. I couldn't do that to my child!

I had a boy, so never got to use Bo!
