I like it, esp. Jeannie.

The Jean I knew was Jane but known as Jean but not sure if that was just her iyswim.

thisisyesterday · 18/04/2009 23:37

i like it

screamingabdab · 18/04/2009 23:38

Weirdly, I don't hate it. It is very much a name of my mum's generation (she's 67), but maybe enough time had passed for it to be cool, especially if she's named after someone.

I like Jeannie too

ramonaquimby · 18/04/2009 23:39

very plain
I know a Jean and she is the plainest person I know - she's about 40

Technofairy · 18/04/2009 23:44

Noooooo

It's a middle aged lady name, not for a beautiful baby girl. I don't think it's very feminine to be honest and makes me think of my mother's friends.

One of my colleagues has called her little girl Jeanne - pronounced Jan. Much nicer and more feminine IMO

MintyyAeroEgg · 18/04/2009 23:54

You won't believe it, but we have had a thread asking about this name very very recently. Jean v. Joan I think. Within the last month.

EdwardCullensWife · 19/04/2009 00:14

No no no.
Jean is 50+, not a newborn.

simpson · 19/04/2009 00:17

Agree with everyone else nooooo to Jean its an old person's name.

Jeannie is nice though.

Although the fact that it would get shortened to jean would put me off.

BibiThree · 19/04/2009 00:18

Jeanie yes, Jean no.

InTheScrum · 19/04/2009 00:20

My friend has just had a little girl and called her Norma Jean.

FeelingLucky · 19/04/2009 08:13

I love the fact that it's sooo old fashioned.
It was also DH's Scottish granny's name, so will please FIL

Nicer with an e on the end as per smiths song.

shootfromthehip · 19/04/2009 08:42

Oh no, old lady name IMO. Sorry.

flightoftheeasterbunyip · 19/04/2009 08:45

'Jeane...the low life has lost its appeal, and i'm tired of walking these streets to a room with a cupboard bare...jeane..'

tummytickler · 19/04/2009 08:48

Hi i posted the Jean versus Joan thread and we have decided to go for Jean (well its on out short list!)
I love it - it is cute, and i dont think there are many baby Jeans out there unless it is coming back in?
We have Jean Primrose as our combo i think.

pavlovthepregnantcat · 19/04/2009 08:49

nope.

flightoftheeasterbunyip · 19/04/2009 08:51

That sounds nice TT.

I think personally i have too many Jeans in my famille to consider it - sister's middle name, grandmother's middle name...neither of whom I get on with very well.

But if you have no bad associations with the name that's cool

FeelingLucky · 19/04/2009 08:52

I'll have a search for that thread tummytickler - thanks

Well I'm a Jean, and I certainly was a newborn once, and I'm only 36 now, so definately not a pensioner yet .

It's fairly unusual though (except in retirement homes) so people tend to remember my name, handy at work where I meet a lot of people.

I didn't really like it when I was younger, but as older names have come back into fashion, it's probably OK for youner children now.

Everyone asks me on the phone how it's spelt, which I always find odd for such an easy name, I'm always being asked if it's Gene.

heavenstobetsy · 19/04/2009 09:05

I love it, love it, love it! I don't think it's too old-lady at all. The only thing that stops me using it is an unfortunate family connection !

TaurielTest · 19/04/2009 09:25

Nice strong name, I like it.
Makes me think of Dr Jean Grey, a good thing!

thesockmonsterofdoom · 19/04/2009 09:27

Jeanie, is lovely, I have a genie, short for genevieve and everyone always loves her name.

sleeplessinstretford · 19/04/2009 23:34

love it.
