I know one she is 17!But i hear it a lot when I'm out and about which has surprised me.i used to really like it and it is v pretty but have heard it screamed in the supermarket a few times and it has taken the shine off it1

Dozymare · 15/04/2009 09:49

I love the name and was on my top 5...however, there are 3 India's in DS2 nursery (he is nearly 3) so can also confirm it is on the "up". So long as you don't mind that, go for it!

Rose and Grace are the most popular girl's middle names you know, My DD has the middle name Grace.....

JulesJules · 15/04/2009 09:49

I love it. The names are both lovely and go very well together. (FWIW, there are no Indias at my dd's school, I do not perceive it to be common round here.)

Leannabanana · 15/04/2009 09:51

any name screamed out in the supermarket can sound horrible tho.....those mothers have a way of doing it [trying to pretend don't do it too ]

i think it is an absolutely beautiful name. i really do.

juneybean · 15/04/2009 09:54

Wasn't this the name rumoured to be Helena Bonham Carters little girls name ...before it came out that it was in fact Nell lol

Megglevache · 15/04/2009 09:56

It's perfectly lovely and the names flow very well together. I'm so surprised that it's popular, where is this?

I have an Indira, only one letter out! :-)

schneebly · 15/04/2009 09:56

Leannabanana · 15/04/2009 14:55

ignore them megglevache Indira is a really lovely name.....i imagine someone with this name to have lovely dark curly hair and big brown eyes...i am totally wrong??

OP posts:
Megglevache · 15/04/2009 16:37

brown-skinned (like her dad)and curly dark hair/ and jade green eyes like me- quite close

Megglevache · 15/04/2009 16:42

leanna don't assume anything with a baby of mixed heritage , I 'd assumed that because all of dh's family were dark eyed (he is afro Indian)that there was no way I'd ever have a light eyed child (I am hispanic nd there are only 3 recorded instances of light eyes in out entire family)and also she is only just starting to get her colour, for two years she's been paler than me! Ds on the other hand is very dark in comparison, was the image of his dad up until a year ago now he is like my brown eyed twin! You may well end up with a blue eyed, flaxen haired, pale child!

stillstanding · 15/04/2009 16:44

Love it - very pretty!

Although I must admit that practically every girl I know who was born this year has Rose as a second name. I am conscious of this as I really wanted it for my future DD ... grrrr

megglevache - i must admit i have absolutely no idea what colouring the new DC will have and that has made it really exciting. I had my first two children with my XH and both of those are tall willowy blondes with big blue eyes so the prospect of 'doing' any other kind of baby is quite a weird one for me, not bad, just weird....My DH has a daughter from X and she is the image of him, she is the colour of toffee and has gorgeous cat like hazel eyes - she looks like she called be called India IYSWIM...but as you say, could be another blue eyed blondie on the way....either is good for me...xxx

My niece's middle names are India and George - love India, not so sure about George but it does go, in a funny Enid Blyton kinda way....

India Rose is really, really pretty.

jabberwocky · 15/04/2009 18:22

Very pretty name

scotagm · 18/04/2009 22:01

Nowhere near as unusual or original as you may think.

Pretentious.

onadietcokebreak · 18/04/2009 22:28

Love it

Plonker · 18/04/2009 23:14

Beautiful name!

And I don't know any India's - I'm NW

Stokey · 21/04/2009 09:08

This is top of my list too, but dh says he won't call his child after a continent... I pointed out it was in fact a sub-continent but this doesn't seem to have swayed him.

His other point is its too posh

But I love it & spent many years growing up in India, as well being half asian. I say go for it.
