there is a beautiful Middle English poem called 'Pearl'- but IIRC it could be interpreted as an elegy for a lost daughter - not only interpretation though. Certainly not common or brassy !

I love it, but can't use it as our sirname would make it sound like Pearl Barley. If you like it go for it.

Hi fab name ive just called my 4 wk daughter Pearl and I love it, I think the common aspect may have been the case once upon a time but now it sounds lovely and a change from Ruby or flowery old lady names that are a bit too popular now, If you like it go for it we have only had good comments from people of all ages even older generations .
