Nope not for me.

ScottishThistle · 31/03/2009 00:49

I like it.

My head tutor @ college was named Pearl (now 80'ish)

I'm Scottish but also capable of saying r without saying rrr!

MitchyInge · 31/03/2009 00:49

I prefer Polly (my favourite P name)

JaquelinehydeAllTheEggs · 31/03/2009 00:52

Oooh I like Polly, but I love Penelope.

ScottishThistle · 31/03/2009 00:55

LizzyLizzyLizzy · 31/03/2009 09:25

Meant to say I like it.

Nancy66 · 31/03/2009 09:30

Don't like it. I know similar names such as Ruby have become very popular but Pearl is not on the same level.

Amongst my mum and gran's generation it was always considered a very brassy and common name.

LizzyLizzyLizzy · 31/03/2009 10:06

Do you think it would still be assosiated with brassy and common?

Nancy66 · 31/03/2009 10:08

My brother suggested it for his kid and the first thing my mum and his mil said was 'No. that's so common' - they're both in their 60s

KAEKAE · 31/03/2009 10:11

I am not keen, its not a name I would use.

QuackQuackQuackQuack · 31/03/2009 10:11

i like it.

girlandboy · 31/03/2009 10:13

I like it.

I also know a lovely lady called Pearl White which always makes me smile.

girlandboy · 31/03/2009 10:14

However, dh has just mentioned the Pearl Necklace scenario.

Hope that wouldn't be a nickname at school.

Issy123 · 31/03/2009 10:29

I love it, I would have used it as a middle name if either my boys had been girls.
A bit different than all the flower names which everyone uses now.

ruty · 31/03/2009 10:30

i think i is quite rock star. Pearl Lowe?

Zil131 · 31/03/2009 11:48

I love it. Especially since the funny thread on the BBC where girls were called Rose Bush and Pearl Button. I think it's fab!

QuackQuackQuackQuack · 31/03/2009 13:34

Rock star sounds better than Brassy and comman

crumpet · 31/03/2009 13:41

I think a few decades ago Pearl would be associated with the lower end of the scocio economic scale, but it reminds me of an old school story (possibly Angela Brazil) where one of the girls had a mother called Moti which was I think Indian for Pearl. Pretty name.

crumpet · 31/03/2009 13:42

oops - "socio"

oysterpots · 31/03/2009 13:46

I LOVE it. I would definitely call a DD Pearl but DH not so keen. I love all those sort of names - Dot, Queenie, Dolly, Betsy.

I am an old lady at heart.
