i was just looking at a list of the usa's most popular girls names for the 1960's. They're really normal names and i know lots of people with these names, but I dont think anyone would give their baby those names now. I wonder will they become fashionable again. Would you use these names? do you know any babies with these names? Here's some examples:

karen
susan
kimberley
patricia
donna
michelle
cynthia
sandra
deborah
pamela
b renda
angela
barbara
sharon
teresa
denise
tina
carol
tracy
stacey
sonya
sheila

I was late 60s. almost every girl in my school had the middle name of Ann, Jane or Louise!

hifi · 30/03/2009 19:28

michaela, melissa and samantha were considered unusual names in my day.

MannyMoeAndJack · 30/03/2009 19:44

In fact, Melissa was used as a boy's name in 70s America!!

notquitenormal · 30/03/2009 20:21

I'm a Michelle, 30 this year. Only came across perhaps 2 others throughout school (though I did go to a mainly muslim school.) Maybe four others since.

Did go to school with lots of Sarahs, Karens, Debbies and Angelas. Most of them known by their inital (e.g. Sarah J) or most obvious phycial feature; Poor old Fat Kaz and Ginger Deb. I reckon I got off lightly.

notagrannyyet · 30/03/2009 20:41

Almost all of those names I recognise from my school days. I'm there as well it was the early 60's .More than half of us had the middle name Elizabeth.

Chellesgirl · 31/03/2009 00:05

Chellesgirl · 31/03/2009 00:22

I also know a 3 yr old called Maribella???? Anyone else heard of it?

I think alot of 20+ yr olds are named after a 60's name as alot of our mums would have been born then and grew up around those names.

ScottishThistle · 31/03/2009 00:24

I had an interview with a 'Maribelle' a couple of months ago, she was mid 30's!

Cucciola · 31/03/2009 14:15

I knew a Maribela. She was Spanish and it was short for Maria-Isabela, who I think was queen, but I am not entirely sure..

I'm a 1975 and I remember there being loads of Lucys, Zoes, Carolines, Lisas, Claire/Clares, Sarahs and, funnily enough, Rachels, which is me

It was my great granny's name, so my mum thought she was being original. So did everyone else's I think!

WeAllGoALittleCrazySometimes · 10/03/2012 12:20

Quite a few of these names were considered for our dd1's name. She was almost a Pamela and a Sheila. She ended up as a Nicola. I think that Kimberley, Cynthia, Michelle and Stacey are all reasonably popular nowadays. I know babies called all of these. I certain places, though, Walter and Ophelia are common names.

WeAllGoALittleCrazySometimes · 10/03/2012 12:21

Oh, I just realised how old this is. Blush

crazynanna · 10/03/2012 12:25

Born in 63.

I am not in OP's list...but I am in NotanOtter's list.

I was named after a song that was in the charts at the time Wink

RedFlagFlying · 10/03/2012 12:37

I know a baby Susan and a baby Pamela! These names will come back, mark my words. I recently met a baby Caroline and a baby

In my day (late 70s baby) all the girls were:

Sarah
Emma
Rachel
Rebecca
Michelle
Leanne
Kerry / Keely / Kelly

They are already coming back - lots of Sarahs and Emmas about, and starting to see more baby Rachels.

RedFlagFlying · 10/03/2012 12:38

HolyNoSheDittantBatman · 11/03/2012 03:15

I know a Kimberley who is 2 and about 10 others (inc. Kim's) aged between 16 and 45.

I know at least one Sandra, Pamela, Sharon, Angela, Sonia and Stacey who are 20 to 30.
