What is the general consensus on this name mumsnetters? Baby born last week and DH and I still haven't agreed on a name! We both like this but are a bit worried about cat jokes, etc!

Love Kitty.

sonniebonnie · 06/03/2009 12:41

Sounds like a nickname imo. I would use Katherine or Katie on the birth certificate.

WowOoo · 06/03/2009 12:44

As others have said. it's nice, but as a nick name. name her something else on birth certificate. Katherine/Katrina.

annasmami · 06/03/2009 13:17

Kitty wouldn't translate well into most other languages imo.

Also agree with others that it sounds like a pet-or nickname.

What about Katherine or Katarina as an alternative?

PuppyMonkey · 06/03/2009 13:22

Kitty is blardy lovely imho! So what if it sounds like a nickname? That's not against the law.

There is a Kitty in dd's class. The mum really regrets calling her Kitty, it drives her mad when the cat jokes come up and when people say 'are we having a kitty?' if we're going to the pub.

I quite like it though!

Kitty was my grandmothers name short for Catherine. She was an amazing woman and therefore I love the name.

frazzledoldbag · 06/03/2009 14:32

Cat jokes? What cat jokes are you all on about? (wonders if self has had a sense of humour bypass whilst all around her people are laughing hysterically at cat jokes). Not only am I unaware of cat jokes I am also unaware of margarine jokes that (apparently) should be rife when my other DD's name is mentioned.............
and d'you know what, if someone did make inappropriate jokes about DD's names I'd just ignore them anyway. How rude. Some people are insensitive, ignorant and stupid (and probably have a commonasmuck horrible name).

[God, could it be that I am pregnant, hormonal and ranting again? I do apologise but this irritates the hell out of me]

Docbunches · 06/03/2009 15:16

I asolutely love it. I very often call my DD Kitty even though it isn't her actual name.

Personally I would go for something like Katherine, which means you can use Kitty, but also have the option to switch to Kate, Kath, etc, later if needs be.

terribly girly I think - not keen
