How many little girls called Alicia do you know?

I wanted Electra really, but it sounds like a power tool next to my surname (rhymes with "trimmer"). So Alicia is my next best, but I would still err towards more unusual names.

I teach in a primary school of 400+ pupils and there aren't any.

Don't like Alicia - just think it's a bit meh, and there are so many other much nicer names out there.

My DD age 6 is Alysha (pronounced Aleesha) & there was also an Alicia in her nursery (i would say that spelling is Alice-ia)
Prefer way I chose - not keen on all these old fashioned names coming back, so thought Alice was like an old aunt's name).
Have asked my DD & she loves her name - wouldn't like to have been called anything else, tho she likes her "shortened" version - Leishy (stuck after cousin wee bit older called her Leishybells when she was born)

A bet 'meh' what does that mean? It is quite rude to say that seeing as there are a lot of us with daughters with that name. The original poster asked for views on how to spell not whether we liked it the name. I know our views are subjective but there is no need to be rude. I am sure you wouldn't like us to criticise your choice of name for your children.

I don't know any Alicias. It's very very pretty BUT if it is going to bug you when people pronounce it about 70 different ways, then don't do it. I have one of those names and I answer to many different pronunciations which gets a bit wearing, because no matter how often you tell people, they will think their way of saying your name is right.

I know one Alicia - pronounced A-liss-ee-ah. I cant understand how it could be pronounced any other way (esp Aleesha).

Yes, I think she was the cleverest girl at Malory Towers. Not a single Alicia in my experience of (loadsof) primary teaching.

Go for it, but expect everyone else to have the same idea.

Fact: 2 years ago there was a preprep school class in London that had TWO children called Unique. That makes me ache.
