How many little girls called Alicia do you know?

I wanted Electra really, but it sounds like a power tool next to my surname (rhymes with "trimmer"). So Alicia is my next best, but I would still err towards more unusual names.
Thanks!

None .. it is a pretty name - I like it. I have heard of a few people using Alyssa which is more American but I prefer Alicia to be honest.

Hulababy · 26/02/2009 20:56

I don't like Electra, sorry, so think Alicia is a much better alternative

No girls called Alicia in DD's all girl's school. None in my class at school either (TA in a Y1 class)

PestoMonster · 26/02/2009 20:57

DD2 has a girl in her class called Elysia, but it is pronounced the same as Alicia.

choosyfloosy · 26/02/2009 20:57

Alicia is lovely. I don't know any. I know an Alissa and an Alice (and have an internal yen for a tiny brunette Alison) but Alicia is great.

KristinaM · 26/02/2009 20:58

none. and the only Alice i knwo is over 70 years old

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 26/02/2009 20:58

I don't know any

hester · 26/02/2009 20:58

I don't know any Alicias. I think it's pretty.

Divineintervention · 26/02/2009 20:59

I know three, I am in Bristol

GetOrfMoiLand · 26/02/2009 21:00

DD's friend is called Alicia, she is 13.

It's a pretty name. Reminds me of the naughty trickster Alicia Johns in Malory Towers.

MrsMattie · 26/02/2009 21:00

I know an Alicia, an Alisha and an Alesha. Oh, and an Alyssia . I like it. It's fairly common, but nice.

Electra is revolting.

GetOrfMoiLand · 26/02/2009 21:01

I like Elektra though. It's a very pretty name.

mynaughtylittlesister · 26/02/2009 21:01

I know 1 10yr old

loooouise · 26/02/2009 21:03

Oooh, that's reassuring, I feared it might be much more common than that. And I'm not in Bristol!
Thanks ladies!

we have both around here.i know a handful of alicias and one Elettra (italian spelling?)

Lilyloo · 26/02/2009 21:03

1 she is 5

lljkk · 26/02/2009 21:04

I went to school with a very cool Electra.
I don't like Alicia because I knew a nasty one in primary. I also used to know an Alicia about 6 years ago, she'd be 7 now.

RachieB · 26/02/2009 23:09

Alicia as in a-lee-shah ? ( as its sposed to be pronounced i think ? )

i dont know any one with that name

I love the way it looks, but dont like the pronounciation

i however LOVE Elysia and Alysia and would use Alys ( welsh for Alice) as shortened form

edam · 26/02/2009 23:11

I've liked Alicia since reading Malory Towers as a child. Lovely name.

RachieB · 26/02/2009 23:14

I loved malory towers too lol

Mum2BeOfTwins0309 · 27/02/2009 01:20

I like the name Alicia (pronounced A-lee-sha) - I am biased though as its my own name! It wasn't so common when I was growing up but there was another girl in my uni who spelt her name Alesha

I do find that I have to correct people to ensure they say it properly, rather than A-lee-see-a

Something to think about...

loooouise · 27/02/2009 08:30

I would want it pronounced A-lis-ia, as I hate R&B and A-lee-sha would remind me of that R&B singer....

I know an Aleesha, who is 12. And I spoke to someone the other day who has a four year old Alicia. I don't think it's as common today as you suspect.

Lol at Electra Strimmer type name - I'm trying to work out what your real surname is now.

MarchNowFebMum · 27/02/2009 09:24

no little girls, just my best friend who is 35! she says a-lish-a

edam · 27/02/2009 10:08

I always think the Aleesha pronunciation is based on people not knowing how to say the name. It was Alice - ee - a until very recently!
