I love it.

It's very cute but I think it's a bit too cute for me. Fine if a nn for Elizabeth though.

differentID · 25/02/2009 19:04

Name her Elizabeth and use Betsy as a pet name for her.

old woman and chubby toddler rolled into one

I like it very much - Elizabeth would have been a favourite for DD but ds vetoed it - I was imagining shortening to Eliza or Betsy

nooka · 26/02/2009 02:25

But PuppyMonkey if your birth certificate says Betsy (or any other diminutive) then you can't lengthen it, as for anything formal your name will be Betsy, unless you change it by deed poll. People will therefore call you Betsy, and look at you very oddly if you then say "it's Elizabeth actually". Whereas the other way around no one blinks an eyelid (is that the right expression?) indeed, people often will ask what you like to be known as when you introduce yourself by a formal name (which personally I find irritating, but there we go).

Personally I have always been know by my diminutive by family and my formal name by everyone else. I would have hated not to have the option.

Tis a complete winner. Was my No 1 choice for DD but DP kicked it out

Love it love it love it

lizmcfizz · 09/03/2009 23:37

Use Elisabeth with an s. Then Betsy is even better as a pet name.

lizmcfizz · 09/03/2009 23:39

Do not even consider it as her only name. PLEASE!

dizzydixies · 09/03/2009 23:44

heavens to Betsy tis fab as a nn for elsabeth

LavenderStar · 10/03/2009 11:54

Personally I don't like it. It sounds old-fashioned and I imagine someone in a laundrette with blue hair and rollers in! But then these sorts of names are making a big comeback - someone said on a post the other day they are called "shabby chic" - like Stanley etc.

mumoftoby · 10/03/2009 21:56

I love Betsy as that - not shortened from Elizabeth. It is a cute, fab name

RubyBelle · 11/03/2009 15:15
