still struggling with girls names

Latest suggestion from DH is Alice but we have a niece called Alison - are these too similar.

Other names being considered are:

Niamh (DH finally accepted that people can learn how to spell and pronounce it)

Maeve - suggested by DH - he didn't go for the traditional spelling 'Maedbh'

I like Sophie but DH had an ex with this name so won't consider it

We have also considered Lucy - I'm not to sure about this

I quite like Clara - DH doesn't

To give you a further idea of the types of names we like DD is Hannah and we are almost decided that if we have a DS he will be Adam.

So with that, what other names can you suggest to further confuse me?

I quite like that but DH doesn't - it was the name of the midwife who delivered our DD

I don't think Alice and Alison are too similar - I'd go with Alice if you like it too. Was just going to suggest Anna and then reread your post and Hannah and Anna wouldn't really work (I need more sleep!)

I think that Lucy is so lovely. I used to teach and every Lucy I ever met was gorgeous. It means 'light' and you can sing 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' to her!! Lucia is also lovely.

I've said before and I'll say it again... I love Frances and Dorothy.

From your suggestions I absolutely passionately love Maeve. Also like Niamh.

Personally the Alison/Alice thing might actually put me off although there is no logical reason not to use Alice, which is lovely and a good match with Hannah.

my thought on Niamh is if we decided to have a third and it was a boy and we still liked outr current fave boys name, it wouldn't work - Adam and Niamh

Emma, Mia, Leah, Molly, Sarah, Erin, Ella, Maisie just a few from my long list! From your list i really like Lucy goes well with Hannah too.

I really like Alice. I think only you can decide if it's too similar to Alison - are her parents likely to be flattered/offended/pissed off/not bothered that you have chosen a similar name.

I also really like Lucy.

If you do go for it, be prepared for its popularity. I had no idea when dd was born that it was in the top 10. There were 5 other Lucys at nursery at one point and there are two in dd's year at school!

I agree with the poster who said all Lucys are lovely - obv we know of a few but they are all lovely children.

I like Irish names - really like Saoirse - but DH doesn't like the fact that the spelling and the pronounciation seem to have no relationship. He doesn't want DC to spend life having to explain name.

Don't be confident that people know how to spell Niamh. I come across this name a lot at work, and the amount of time it's spelt incorrectly is astounding (naive, neevh, neavh, neev, niav ...etc)

Love Alice - I have one. Love Niamh and Maeve, both of which we considered for dd1. Am less fond of Sophie and Lucy.

Maeve is my fave girl's name of all. We were decided on it for dd1 before realising it didn't really go with our surname. I've tried to convince dh again with db2 due in a couple of weeks but he's decided it really doesn't go.

Arden? Means passionate and not too dissimilar to Adam.

I love Lucy. It would have been my choice. I have a hannah instead. i see what you mean about similiar names . i have a neice called emily and really wanted to call my DD Emma but thought that it was too similar.
