Magnus OK, girls names fine - other boys names seriously appalling!! Sorry but you did ask...........I do still have nightmares about me considering Maximus for dd (who I thought was a ds!) No, no, no. I thank God that sense appeared just in time.

Dexter - forever tainted for me because of that serial killer tv show
Flint - conjours image of cro-magnon man trying to light fire. What about Flynn instead?
Anselm - never knew this was used as a first name, I live on Anselm street though!

Magnus for a boy, defintely, I really love it.

I like Anouska and Uma but I wouldn't go for Uma with a really short surname, somehow I don't think that it would sound very feminine.

I know a Dexter and when he was young was so cute. It is a really trendy name. I like Uma.

We had the same problem for our kids as we have a common single syllable surname and you have to, I think, have a l;ong name for a girl with lots of syllables to avoid them sounding harsh.

Therefore we had Harriet for DD, but we named DS Max as we though a 1 syllable first and second name was quite manly.

I don't mind Magnus or Dexter and Anouska but the other ones are pretty dire!

I don't like any of them unless you happen to live in a Scandinavian country in which case they're fine.

I don't really like Dexter (makes me think of the serial killer TV forensic) and Flint is awful.

But the rest are decent names. Do you have a Scandinavian link?

I like Magnus a lot for a boy. I wouldn't use Uma unless you have Indian connections as it is a traditional Sanskrit name and, as far as I know not at all Swedish/ German.
Quite like Anoushka.
I suspect you are just feeling negative about names because of what your brother has done. There are so many beautiful Swedish names!!

My sister in law is Swedish. She is Katarina which is pretty and classic but there are others which will sound more unusual in the UK if you prefer. Good luck!
