Tristan, Reuben or Oscar?

DP and I can't decide.

Normally lovely MIL made retching noises at Tristan and FIL (also normally lovely) said 'So you've saved enough for it to go to private school then?'

Thoughts on any of the above please?

Tristan is a lovely name. I like the others also. though but I think that's my favourite.

jennylindinha · 12/02/2009 18:12

Oh, these are possibly my three favourite boys names and were on my list! However, we had a gorgeous DD instead so I have time to persuade DP for the next one... (he wan't so keen)

I think Tristan is my fave at the mo. HTH.

4madboys · 12/02/2009 18:12

well my ds2 is called Oscar Reuben so i LOVE those names

chaya5738 · 12/02/2009 18:20

Reuben then Oscar. Really don't like Tristan.

LauriefairycakeeatsCupid · 12/02/2009 18:21

Reuben.

Then Oscar, but the only Oscar I know was a twonk

SalmonintheLiffey · 12/02/2009 18:21

Reuben is lovely, Oscar is ok, and Tristan is just comical. I really dislike that name. Pompous and effeminate

DanJARMouse · 12/02/2009 18:25

Prefer Tristan to any of the others.

Reuben i just dont like.

Oscar is MIL's cat....... and will always be a cat name for me!

Shoshe · 12/02/2009 18:33

The most gorgeous boy mindee i have ever looked after was a Oska, the family emigrated to Oz, but I am still in touch.

bratnav · 12/02/2009 18:46

REUBEN!

Right, kill this thread now, the decision's made.

Sesi · 12/02/2009 18:56

Tristan is in a different class to the others imo.

Still my go for it myself - love the Celtic story behind the name, very romantic.

Then if I had to choose i'd say 2nd) Oscar 3rd) Reuben.

tattycoram · 12/02/2009 19:01

I like Tristan. Reuben is lovely too. Oscar too pet like.

audley · 12/02/2009 19:24

Oscar then Tristan then Reuben, I have met 2 or 3 little Reuben's recently and Tristan has bad associations for me. Oscar is lovely and flows nicely with your mn choices imo

TheThoughtPolice · 12/02/2009 19:28

Tristan - appalling

Rueben and Oscar both v nice

lou031205 · 12/02/2009 19:49

Rueben, then Oscar. Not Tristan

pavlovthecat · 12/02/2009 19:51

Reuben, then Tristan, not oscar at all.

WomanInAnAttic · 12/02/2009 20:04

Tristan is an estate agent's name.

There is a baby called Oscar on Eastenders.

Not everyone can spell Reuben.

Madmentalbint · 12/02/2009 20:19

I love Oscar

I think Hugh Furry-Wellington-Boots has a DS called Oscar.

Cies · 12/02/2009 20:27

Oscar, Tristan and at the back trailing in the distance Reuben.

annasmami · 12/02/2009 21:12

Tristan is lovely and less common than the other two names, so I would choose it.

It also 'travels' well into other languages (unlike Rueben/Reuben - in German Ruebe is a turnip ).

dinkymum · 12/02/2009 21:49

Reuben

lastboxoftampons · 12/02/2009 21:50

If this baby is a boy, he will be Tristan James, so I vote for Tristan!

twostrokefour · 12/02/2009 21:55

Reuben (meaning 'behold a son') He's the first boy out of lots of dd's and dn's so very apt. lovely name, mine is scrumptious!

Oscar is great, not sure about Tristan....

dragonbutter · 12/02/2009 21:57

I like torsten or thorsten as an alternative

muggglewump · 12/02/2009 21:57

Tristan would have been DD's name so I'd say that.
It's my favourite boys name ever
