Tristan, Reuben or Oscar?

DP and I can't decide.

Normally lovely MIL made retching noises at Tristan and FIL (also normally lovely) said 'So you've saved enough for it to go to private school then?'

Thoughts on any of the above please?

I love HFW but it doesn't surprise me in the slightest to hear that he named his son Oscar.

Reuben

Febes · 13/02/2009 13:46

I am calling mine Reuben if its a boy. Reuben Cornelius
If a girl it will be Caitlin Nora.

MKG · 13/02/2009 13:55

I love Tristan.

Reuben and Oscar are very, very popular. There is a little brat boy in our Monkey Music class called Tristan.

MrsSeanBean · 13/02/2009 18:58

Hmmm, not really keen on any TBH but I think I would say Reuben. That flows best with the middle names (which are fab) IMO as well.

Lotster · 13/02/2009 19:51

Reuben

I know of lots of Oscars, so I'd avoid it although I like it a lot. Reuben and Tristan are both nice names too!

daisy5 · 13/02/2009 20:53

Why don't you decide when he is born? But imo Oscar, very 'in' at the moment, and I get worried with names that are very 'in', because they can become very 'out', like fashion, but I'm sure tonnes of people won't agree with me.

People often have quite a strong reaction to the name 'Tristan'. Some of my friends giggle at the name and think it's a bit ridiculous. Others associate it with private schools and feel it is a bit of a girly name. I'm not mad on it, tbh.

Reuben - sounds nice, isn't loaded with 'associations' as far as I know. I have never actually met any, so was surprised to hear a couple of people saying that it was very popular right now.

Good luck.

tristan.

noonki · 13/02/2009 21:09

reuben

I would be mortified to have to introduce myself as tristan (even if I was male)

we almost called DS2 Oscar but quite glad we didnt as they seem to be everywhere

sonniboo · 14/02/2009 10:08

Another vote for Tristan - lovely, classic, masculine sounding name that isn't too common.

Don't think Reuben 'travels' well into other languages.

And I find Oscar too popular atm.

KIRAleigh · 13/12/2010 20:12

We have a 4 year old son named Reuben Jay Hall. I am 8 months pregnant and we have decided Oscar Joe for a boy, we think Reuben and Oscar go lovely together? However, we can not decide on a girls name. We do love Ava Lily but are worried it is too popular? Joe and Lily were my partners grandparents names and we have decided they are definate middle names. Please help :)!

Had Reuben as a boys name while waiting for my dd to be born. Still want a Reuben but not happy to discover it has become so popular over the last 9 years! Xmas Wink

AllieW · 14/12/2010 10:23

I like Tristan, then Reuben, then Oscar. Tristan is probably the least common and there's the story of Tristan and Isolde which you can tell him when he's bigger! It is probably preferable to its close cousin Tristram, I should think...

Thissideofchannel · 14/12/2010 10:25

Tristan always reminds me of triste (sad in french) Sad.

Reuben is nice - are you jewish?

I'm not keen on Oscar/Ozzy.

missmehalia · 14/12/2010 10:27

Like them all. (Sorry, doesn't help does it?) Reuben in preference, I suppose (Oscar seems increasingly common, and I know a lot of pets with that name, too!)

Don't fret too much - ATM it's 'just a name', when he's born that name will just be representative of your beautiful son, rather than just a word to attract opinions.
