Can anyone think of any downsides to these boy's names?

I'm 34w with DS2 and we've got to two boy's names, but now I'm worried I've missed something obvious with them!

DS1 is Michael Cian Robson (we're a Welsh family) and we only realised later his initials are MCR (My Chemical Romance)

DS2: either Gabriel Thomas Robson OR William (Will) Thomas Robson.

Can anyone think who these would be problematic (nicknames etc)?. The only one I've thought of is having 2 sons with -iel names.

Can't think of anything offhand.

Maybe Gabriel Robson is a little tricky to say with the 2 b's. but otherwise fine.

I wait to be corrected!

belgo · 27/01/2009 18:08

Will Robson , slightly tenuous but makes the sentance will rob son. I'm not sure if that's a problem or not!

ScummyMummy · 27/01/2009 18:09

William and Gabriel are both lovely names, I think. Can't see any potential downsides.

DumbledoresGirl · 27/01/2009 18:11

Michael and Gabriel are fantastic boys' names. William is perfectly ok too.

If it helps, I have never heard of My Chemical Romance and I think the fuss over initials is overrated. My sister was SAC before she married. It wasn't a problem.

noonki · 27/01/2009 18:14

other than a personal preference of william to Gabriel no probs imo.

stopthelights · 27/01/2009 18:18

Gay is the shortened version of Gabriel in Ireland - Gay Byrne for example. Maybe something to think about

follderol · 27/01/2009 18:18

MCR is short for Manchester

Nancy66 · 27/01/2009 18:48

Both lovely names.

My nephew is Gabriel. He's five years old now and at school and is only ever called Gabriel, never been shortened. Admittedly it's a bit early to start with the 'gay boy' jibes but it still think it's a fab name.

bixley · 27/01/2009 19:57

Will Thomas rob, son? Sounds like a question!
Love Gabriel and Michael

BabyBaby123 · 27/01/2009 20:01

i think you are thinking too much....

Bubbaluv · 27/01/2009 20:02

What is My Chemical Romance?

MrsY · 27/01/2009 22:26

My Chemical Romance is a band.

We had Gabriel on our list for a boy and had the gay boy comments, but we would have used it regardless.

My theory is younger children wont know and older children wont care!

laumiere · 28/01/2009 13:25

I think I'm leaning more towards Gabriel. The bump is currently known as Danger after someone pointed out he'd be 'Danger, Will Robson, danger!' like the robot in Lost in Space (very bad TV show, even worse film).

This has led to some very silly people thinking that we'd actually NAME our son Danger.....

They're fine

spent ages racking my brains for what MCR was and it's Macmillan Cancer Relief- not an issue LOL!

PMSL at danger

Bubbaluv · 28/01/2009 16:24

Do you think MCR (the band) will still be well known enough for this to be relevant to your son by the time he is using his initals?
They're not The Beatles, of Madonna or similarly influential in society surely?
There's always going to be something that has the same initials as the names you choose.

laumiere · 28/01/2009 16:26

RE: MCR: being as 90% of my friends are Goths, I think it'll be a while before I live it down

Luckily it's more amusing than anything.

Bubbaluv · 28/01/2009 16:28

Ah, gotcha. More a prob for you than him then probably?

Clattered · 28/01/2009 16:29

Very few people will make the MCR connection.

Michael and Gabriel both angel names.
Both names nice.

Bubbaluv · 28/01/2009 17:05

Laumiere, I think you will be encouraging your DS to bring home any child who does make the MCR connection! You'll know they are your kind of kids!
Although, you know he's going to be an accountant who's into folk music and morris dancing don't you?

laumiere · 28/01/2009 17:19

We are worried about the accountancy thing yes , DH is a mosher so it's a very real fear.....

OP posts:
KatB · 29/01/2009 00:45

My DH is an accountant - his surname is Robson - be afraid!!!!

Tiredmumno1 · 29/01/2009 01:57

U know what kids r like he will be the arc angel when he grows up, william is cute, my sons initials are j.a.m. So relatives refer to him as doughnut lol. But i am ok with that as it is just a little joke. As long as u dont call him prince, u should be good

Tortington · 29/01/2009 02:09

gabriel is a beautiful name.

but seriously i have no idea what world everyone else lives in but i wouldn't call my son a name that would mean he is labled as 'gay-boy' for his junior years.

what with the angel connection ....its like saying - here is my child....take the piss

ClaudiaSchiffer · 29/01/2009 03:13

Gabriel is lovely.

re your earlier comment re Danger as a name. A friend of mines DP has a son (aged 6) who has Danger as a middle name, purely, so his dad says, he can in future chat up girls in bars using the line "Danger is my middle name".

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

nooka · 29/01/2009 03:58

My cousin is a Gabriel and has never been teased, even though he was a very beautiful child (he's a pretty gorgeous man too). He is sometimes known as Gabe, which seems to be the shortening when one is used. I think it is a fab name. But I think with your surname I would be more inclined to choose William. Partly because one ArchAngel in the family is probably enough, but mostly because it is a bit of a mouthful
