Can anyone think of any downsides to these boy's names?

I'm 34w with DS2 and we've got to two boy's names, but now I'm worried I've missed something obvious with them!

DS1 is Michael Cian Robson (we're a Welsh family) and we only realised later his initials are MCR (My Chemical Romance)

DS2: either Gabriel Thomas Robson OR William (Will) Thomas Robson.

Can anyone think who these would be problematic (nicknames etc)?. The only one I've thought of is having 2 sons with -iel names.

#1.) Gabriel Thomas is a strong name... if you wanted a nickname.. call him GABE.

AND

#2.) William Thomas is very nice as well. And the nickname WILL is okay.

Good luck to you!!

Gabriel is a lovely name. I know of a couple - both shortened to Gabe. No 'gay-boy' connotations just yet.

I think the initial thing is just if it spells out something rude or silly - DH almost ended up being A.R.S.!

Will Robson is nice too.

Danger, Danger Will Robson.
I know it's actually Robinson, but close. Not really a problem though.

Only thing that would put me off Gabriel is the angel connection and the 'Gay' shortening - to me it feels a little feminine.....

Really like William and Cian, though.

Michael is a little boring/common for me - I know soo many (North American) Mikes...

Yeah, I know about the Robson/Robinson thing, I just have weird friends :-)

Family is Catholic so the angels connection actually is a positive for us (DH's family are Welsh, mine live in Spain, so neither would have an issue).

Features-wise our sons tend to favours dad's height and my features, so are very 'pretty' and slender, so won't be hulking great rugby boys with squashed noses or anything.

MCR sounds like pretty cool initials to me!

Is he showing any emo tendencies?

Gerard Way - now that's a name I wouldn't choose!

My friend's son is nicknamed Gabe. It's like Richard and Dick I think, in sofaras, nObody would walk up to a Richard and just start calling him Dick. That just wouldn't happen. Nowadays it would be Richie or Rich. The same would go for Gabriel/Gay Imo

TheFirstLiffey · 29/01/2009 13:41

Laumiere, you mean Christian when you say catholic. The Angel Gabriel is not a catholic saint!!!

laumiere · 29/01/2009 14:11

Ahem He might have a skull and crossbones t-shirt and black jeans.....

And Liffey, quite likely, I'm a Druid so not really up on the whole thing :-)
