I'm due in April and if the baby is a boy I want to call him Ernie....I think it's lovely. DP isnt keen but I might be able to convince him before the arrival!

What does everyone think??? Any similar name suggestions too please!!

Don't like it. Sorry!

mckenzie · 21/01/2009 22:27

my friend has a DS called Ernie. Some people do snigger but if you like the name then who cares what other people think?

RIAchforthestars · 21/01/2009 22:28

It is nice, but not my style, I would prefer Ernest.

I would be prepared for jokes about milkmen and ghostly gold-top though

Don't like it.

nancy75 · 21/01/2009 22:29

he drove the fastest milk float in the west

dizzydixies · 21/01/2009 22:30

as long as your DH or any other DS aren't called Bert I think its ok

in terms of old man chic I think there are others I would use over and above it but its quite sweet

what about

Arthur nn Art
Herbert nn Bertie or Herb or Herbie (my FAVOURITE)
Albert nn Bertie
Hugo
Robert nn Bertie
Archie

nancy75 · 21/01/2009 22:30

sorry couldnt stop myself

chancelloroftheexCHEQUERS · 21/01/2009 22:30

I know an Ernie.

It suits him.

He is my Dad's best mate though.

Amapoleon · 21/01/2009 22:31

Sorry I don't like it. I associate it with ernie the fastest milkman in the west.

kidcreoleandthecoconuts · 21/01/2009 22:31

I dont understand the milkman reference?

Explain please

OP posts:
SoMuchToBits · 21/01/2009 22:31

Nancy75, I was going to say the same

chancelloroftheexCHEQUERS · 21/01/2009 22:32

Kidcreole it was a song.

Ernie the milkman drove the fastest milk cart in the West.

Think it was Benny Hill.

SoMuchToBits · 21/01/2009 22:32

You must be young kid creole! It was a song in the charts in about 1973!!!

chancelloroftheexCHEQUERS · 21/01/2009 22:32

Milk float, sorry.

random · 21/01/2009 22:32

NO!!!

kidcreoleandthecoconuts · 21/01/2009 22:33

Dizzy - my DS is Bertie already.

squeaver · 21/01/2009 22:33

Amapoleon - you beat me too it.

Eeeeerrneeee. He was the fastest milkman in the west.

You must be under 40 kidcreole.

nancy75 · 21/01/2009 22:33

showing our age ladies!

RIAchforthestars · 21/01/2009 22:33

I think it was "cart" rahter than float.

I digress,

Clement is a nice old name.

LaDiDaDi · 21/01/2009 22:34

I like dizzydixies suggestions.

I'm 30 and I think "milkman" in response to Ernie.

RIAchforthestars · 21/01/2009 22:34

I am under 40, my DS1 has eclectic tastes!

Herbert is nice too.

kidcreoleandthecoconuts · 21/01/2009 22:35

Well not his real name but we called him Bertie when I was pregant and it stuck....Bertie Bubbles

OP posts:
LadyPinkofPinkerton · 21/01/2009 22:35

It was my Grandads name but not a name I'd pick for a baby now

Bumperslucious · 21/01/2009 22:37

I say this in the nicest possible way, and not directly to the OP but to all of us, and from the position of having been pg and wanting to call DD Sapphire or Aurora:

PREGNANT WOMAN REALLY SHOULDN'T BE ALLOWED TO NAME THEIR BABIES
