ursula is lovely but what if she is hirsute?

Bucharest · 19/01/2009 11:52

Cecilia- ditto Cecily, I'd worry about them having a lithp and I don't like all those "ssss" sounds together.
Cecily
Ursula- harsh sounding....I do imagine a DH Lawrence heroine though
Joanna- my utterly bonkers absolute favourite eccentric Aunt. I love it.
Iris- s'ok, bit sleb baby at the mo
Angelina- would have to be petite and ballerina-esque, which a child of mine is unlikely ever to be....
Trudie - nasty....urgh. Funny looking vet woman, or as pp has said, an ex friend who was vile.

Cecilia - love it
Cecily - poncy version of the above
Ursula - Not keen, old lady-ish, but do like Sula
Joanna - 1970s. NO.
Iris - nice, but very over used right now
Angelina - Jolie. Like it, though. Considered it for DD but the Jolie references were a deal breaker for me.
Trudie - Styler. Horrid, horrid name.

duchesse · 19/01/2009 11:54

Cecilia is my second daughter's name. We like it!

Trudie and Iris, not so keen.

Cecily I like- it's sweetly Victorian.

Ursula should be a strong woman (probably in her hockey team at school)

Joanna- too many of those around

Angelina- nice with the right surname.

moonincancer · 19/01/2009 13:15

Cecilia - i love, my RL friend

Cecily - a bit like Cecil

Ursula - grown woman

Joanna - little girl

Iris - eye, van gogh

Angelina - ballerina

Trudie - shortened to true, how lovely is that

LaDiDaDi · 19/01/2009 13:19

Cecilia-pretty girl from the 1930's, did well for herself by marrying a rich man.

Cecily-similar to above, a bit more bookish.

Ursula-librarian

Joanna-middle class doctor (though I've just read When Will There Be good News which may influence me here )

Iris-mysterious, independent

Angelina-flighty, wants to write a novel but won't ever

Trudie-chunky, wears ethnic wooden necklaces

mrsseanbean · 19/01/2009 13:23

Cecilia - middle aged, very chic, looks good in specs, grey bob and pearls
Cecily - younger version of above
Ursula - 'funky' 8 year old girl defying the old lady name image
Joanna - slightly plump and ordinary girl next door
Iris - tall, pretty, willowy but a bit vague
Angelina - gamine, audrey hepburn style, french, flirty
Trudie - 40 year old checkout operator

EBenes · 19/01/2009 13:27

Cecilia - pretty, posh

Cecily - a bit flatter, just as posh, probably prefer it

Ursula - maybe I find this ugly because of Cheeky comic, where it was the name of a very ugly usherette

Joanna - middle aged

Iris - also middle aged but ripe for reclaiming, would be stunning on a pretty 18 year old

Angelina - Jolie

Trudie - Styler

cuddlemum · 19/01/2009 19:10

Cecilia- pretty, patron saint of music

Cecily- love this. Makes me think of 'The Importance of being Earnest' too

Ursula- dislike

Joanna-v 70s

Iris-love this- v pretty and less popular than some flower names.

Angelina- and Brad

Trudie- not keen

Fimbo · 19/01/2009 19:11

The Boden Catalogue springs to mind for all of those names.

Tidey · 19/01/2009 19:12

Sorry about this, but it sounds like a list of members at a pony club. Of course, you might well be very rich and this is your intention.

The only one I like is Iris.
No offence meant.

lljkk · 19/01/2009 19:14

I like Joanna best. They all remind me of someone I've known with those names (personally, or celeb).

wotulookinat · 19/01/2009 19:14

Only Joanna is useable in my opinion. The others are all very la-di-dah.
