Cecilia ... Nobtastic.
Cecily ... Too many s s s s sounds.
Ursula ... Beefy Nordic plaited lass.
Joanna ... Formerly common but possibly ripe for a comeback.
Iris ... ditto.
Angelina ... Jolie.
Trudie ... Like an Enid Blyton character.

All the names are quite jolly hockey sticks.

pointydog · 19/01/2009 19:18

Cecilia - one of my long since deceased grannies, just see it as a family name

Cecily - along the lines of CAndleford

Ursula - bear, Germanic, clunky

Joanna - v popular name so it doesn't conjure any picture

Iris - very of-the-moment but a rather harsh sounding name

Angelina - ballerina

Trudie - Styler, tantric

Legoleia · 19/01/2009 19:21

Ursula - the scary octopus woman in The Little Mermaid (sorry)

janeite · 19/01/2009 19:24

Cecilia - ok / bit of a mouthful

Cecily - I really like this and think it works well for a woman and a little girl

Ursula - I don't like this / didn't she come out of the sea in a James Bond film and is also an evil Octopus woman in The Little Mermaid?

Joanna - bit dull

Iris - old lady / don't like it

Angelina - Jolie / mouse

Trudie - don't like this sorry: isn't Sting's wife called Trudie and she has a red bedroom and tantric sex.

SO my money is on Cecily, which is a lovely, classic, pretty name.

Cies · 19/01/2009 19:28

Cecilia - a Spanish lady I know who pronounces it theTHEElia

Cecily - very prim and proper English country rose

Ursula - bears, Phoebe's sister in Friends, German exchange students

Iris - Murdoch, and the flower, pretty

Angelina - ballerina mouse

Joanna - my favourite name as a child for my imaginary older sister. Now seems a bit 70s maybe?

Trudie - again German exchange student, and the dead baby in Goodnight Mister Tom

snuffyp · 19/01/2009 19:29

All abit old fashioned!?

pooka · 19/01/2009 19:35

Cecilia - a nun. NOt keen
Cecily - someone with a lisp. Again not keen
Ursula - smokes black cigarettes through a cigarette holder. LIke it, but a bit masculine
Joanna - Trollope/piano. OK. Like Jo.
Iris - Flower. Sadie Frost (think she has a dd called iris). Prob my favourite from the list. Rather like it.
Angelina - Jolie/mouse. Bit frou frou and saccharine
Trudie - Styler. Tantric sex. Or Trudie Scrumptious. No.

pooka · 19/01/2009 19:36

PMSL = just saw janeite's views on trudie. You just cannot escape the connection between the name and tantric sex!

warthog · 19/01/2009 19:36

Cecilia nun
Cecily wanna be nun
Ursula another nun (yes, patron saint of our school)
Joanna prudish
Iris eye scan
Angelina joli

boccadellaverita · 19/01/2009 19:47

OK, I am going to unleash my inner stereotypes ...

Cecilia - Rather beautiful and delicate. In later life is a moderately successful watercolour artist.
Cecily - Also rather beautiful. Captain of the local tennis club.
Ursula - Strong and capable. Future director of nursing in a teaching hospital.
Joanna - Has sturdy calves after years of cycling. Marries a man called Roger.
Iris - Slightly fey but wins prizes at drama school.
Angelina - Wants to be a barrister but the appointments committee bins her application because she has a 'fluffy' name.
Trudie - Did well at school but has since become addicted to plastic surgery.

But these are the ravings of a mad woman.

Plonker · 19/01/2009 19:51

Cecilia - mad old auntie
Cecily - head girl
Ursula - sea witch
Joanna - girl next door
Iris - trendy pretty little girl with dark hair and a heavy fringe
Angelina - ballerina
Trudie - scrumptious (ok, I know thats Truly, but you did ask what comes to mind )

MrsStig · 19/01/2009 19:58

Cecilia-Pretty, but spoilt by her parents. Proably very good ath the violin or piano, and will get mostly A* at GCSE.

Cecily- not sure.

Ursula - A middle aged frumpy old dear.

Joanna - slightly plum, into horses and homebaked cakes.

Iris - Either a mad old lady or a 5 year old at a private girls shcool.

Angelina- Working class, but her parents
make sure she has everything should could possible need for her multitude of dance lessons and performances. And singling lessons. The boy next door can't stand her.

Trudie - outgong, sporty, blonde. Works hard and plays hard. Is it nervous energy?

LittleDoe · 19/01/2009 20:12

Cecilia - that annoying song

Cecily - reminds me of Sicily

Ursula - don't like, reminds me of Ulrika

Joanna - really like the components (i.e. Jo and Anna!) but somehow the name Joanna still sounds a wee bit dull

Iris - I like, but too popular just now. Also reminds me of the eye rather than the flower.

Angelina - Jolie

Trudie - the type of girl who would wear a ton of make up to school

Really like the thread though!

wotulookinat · 20/01/2009 09:51

lunamoon2 · 20/01/2009 17:34

Oh well here goes.........

Cecillia: did well at school, hosts fabuluois parties with home-made food. Wears her own, very well made clothes which are direct replicas of celebrity clothes and nobody can tell the difference. Extremely friendly and well liked.

Cecily: A poor man's version of the above.

Ursula: Foreign lady of rather large stature with missing teeth and jet black hair piled high on top of her head. The local kids are terrified of her and when a ball is kicked into her sparse garden, absolutely no-one dare ask for it back!

Joanna: Slightly smug blonde, a bit dim.

Angelina: Loves dancing and has done so since childhood, never missing a ballet lesson. When her beloved dance teacher passed away she took over the dance school, changing it from Miss Lilly's to Miss Angelina's . Very petite with goofy teeth and walks with feet pointed out, a consequence of her endless ballet posses.

Trudie:Blonde with a penchance for bright pink lipstick and take tan.

SalBySea · 20/01/2009 17:40

Cecilia - ?

Cecily - Celery

Ursula - Ursuline nuns

lunamoon2 · 20/01/2009 21:23

OOO missed off Iris
Very pretty and well behaved as a child with adoring bohemian parents. However her world fell apart when daddy buggered off with the au pair. As an adult is willowy with short, dark hair. Women secretly want to be like her but men only want her for one thing, poor Iris.

sleepyhead3 · 21/01/2009 18:10

Cecilia- pretty but perhaps a bit frilly

Cecily- Victorian tea parties, love it though!

Ursula-DH Lawrence, no keen
