My friend at work's daughter is Elkie. I think it's really nice.

Podrick · 12/01/2009 20:49

sounds to me like a small Elk

ImBettingOnAlice · 12/01/2009 20:55

I immediately think Elkie Brookes (shows my age!) and the large moose type creature.
But, then again, that's because you've asked me to think about it. I'm sure if I just heard the name, i wouldn't think either of those things!

nomorelostweekends · 12/01/2009 21:03

Yes, i think elkie brookes is where i got it from! Have never heard anyone else with the same name so interesting that your friends daughter is Elkie, barcodezebra. We aren't trying to find anything particularly unusual, just one we agree on. DD has a very 'popular' name indeed. I hadn't really got the large moose type image until pointed out, but can see its kinda obvious really!

Not a name. Elkie Brooks's real name is Elaine.

Elsa I like.

zanz1bar · 12/01/2009 22:04

love it, love it, love it.

LiffeyMermaid · 12/01/2009 22:38

I really like it.

I also like Silke, but I don't like Sylvia. Silke is pronounced silky and is a german pet form of Sylvia (I think).

seeker · 12/01/2009 22:43

Baby, toddler, shy 12 year old, bolshie 15 year old, kick ass lawyer 25 year old, 35 year old SAHM, gracious 70 year old, frail 90 year old. Does the name fit all stages? If so, then yea, if not then no.

RachieB · 12/01/2009 22:45

I know a Silke "pronouced Silka" - she is German, lovely name

Tommy · 12/01/2009 22:47

didn't Elkie Brooks do "Total eclipse of the heart" as well? Rhat's what came straight nto my head when I saw the thread title!

Sorry - not a nice name at all IMO

annasmami · 13/01/2009 10:51

I know quite a few German Elkes (and Silkes). Elke in German is pronounced El-keh. Nice name!

belgo · 13/01/2009 10:52

I know a few Elkes, but not keen on the name.

Prefer Silke or Anya.

Botbot · 13/01/2009 13:22

Total Eclipse of the Heart was Bonnie Tyler.

Tommy · 13/01/2009 15:37

thanks botbot. Bonnie is an OK name

seeker · 14/01/2009 10:15
