I love the name Octavia.

It was one I wanted for DD3 but DH said it was too poncey. Bearing in mind where we live he was probably right! I still adore it though.

sorry I find it has such strong connotations which will be fine if your DD is strongminded and doesnt care to be considered as 'posh' all of her life.

My name sounds very posh, until I explain it's because I'm half polish. Now I don't care what people prejudges are about my name now. BUT when I was an insecure teen I felt I always had to say why I have my name.

But that said having had a listen to a Boy Named Sue and she may thank you for the Gravel in her guts and the spit in her eye!

Please don't name your child Octavia!
Sorry but I think it's truly awful. It doesn't even sound like a name of a person, it sounds like a shape or a car.
It's not even a pretty name, it doesn't sound nice, too harsh a sound.
Sorry but I do think it's possibly one of the worst names I've ever heard. That's how strongly I feel about it.

It is beautiful name. If you love it, use it.

but not everyone wants pretty pretty names for their daughters.

I think it is a lovely name, it is really growing on me.

also re posh names

both my kids names were fairly "posh" when they were born

NOW they both occasionally make it onto the "chavvy names" threads

tis life. I love their names.

I also don't think that whether someone is considered posh, kuwlchured, or whatever has a huge amount to do with their name. The child makes the name, not the other way round

(and YES I have read freakonics too and think his theory on names is rubbish-usual post hoc ergo propter hoc crap)
