I've just received a text to tell me that a friend (of sorts!) has called her poor baby Sloane Anais....WTF??? Am I missing something here or does everyone else agree this is just awful?

What name have u picked paolosgirl? We're torn for a girls name.

paolosgirl · 09/01/2009 23:50

KELLY HONEY!!!

Seriously though, I think you just have to go with what you and your dh/dp like. I'm a real fan of traditional first names and more outlandish middle names, so that they have an alternative if they want. My favourite name at the moment is Flora - but wee doubts with that as well because of the margarine!

cheesesarnie · 09/01/2009 23:54

like flora too but kelly hunny wins.

paolosgirl · 09/01/2009 23:56

DON'T FORGET THE CAPS LOCK

xxhunnyxx · 10/01/2009 00:02

I do like the name Honey and yes I think it prob is best as a middle name.

cheesesarnie · 10/01/2009 00:04

bum yes.KELLY HONEY is great.

paolosgirl · 10/01/2009 00:06

I was referring (very cheekily) to SHOUTY KELLY who kept referring to people as honey and luv - although I kind of got the feeling that she didn't really luv them!

I hope you come to a decision and manage to pick a name you both like - it's not always easy to do, is it

HelenBurns · 10/01/2009 06:41

Lol at Shouty Kelly. I think she should change her name actually.

(might get shouted at again)

LightShinesInTheDarkness · 10/01/2009 17:43

I'm back now the shouting has died down. Was not keen on Sloane, but am more impressed now that I have heard it is an old Irish name (thisisyesterday) - i don't care for what i call 'made up' names. Like Petula, its a made up name - Petula Clark's dad made it up for her.

I saw a child named "Mocha" has joined DD's class.
I have no idea whether this is a boy or girl

lunamoon2 · 10/01/2009 23:09

I don't like Sloane.
Thought Anais was ok but I must have been mispronouncing it! I blame the perfume which I feel sure cacheral pronounced as An-ay, An-ay. Not Anne eye uus, Anne eye uus.

Bluestocking · 11/01/2009 19:32

Anais is pronounced An-ay-ees or An-ah-ees, not Anne-EYE-uss. And I don't think there was ever a TV campaign for the perfume, which was probably why it was universally and wrongly known as "Annay Annay".
