I've just received a text to tell me that a friend (of sorts!) has called her poor baby Sloane Anais....WTF??? Am I missing something here or does everyone else agree this is just awful?

It's not bullying it's expressing opinions about the name only why some people take it personally is beyond me.
The truth is helpful actually.
Sloane is a silly and somewhat aspirational name. Can't believe someone would willingly label their child a Sloane.

ReginaFelange · 09/01/2009 10:31

I don't see the problem with the name. Every person has different opinions.

I could post OMG who could call their child Graeme (disclaimer I have no thoughts on this name either way) and somebody could love that name. Pathetically rude to comment in such a way.

MrsMattie · 09/01/2009 10:58

What the heck is the point of a Baby Names forum if people can't post their frank opinions on names? Of course it gets bitchy sometimes, because sometimes there is just no nice way of saying 'That name is horrible'.

FGS, grow a set or naff off to another thread.

(And don't call your kid Sloane unless you have thick skin!)

beanieb · 09/01/2009 10:59

I like it. It's different. Why 'poor child' ?

is it because all your children will be growing up thinking it's ok to take the piss because it can't possibly be their fault if they do as it's so much easier to blame the parents of teh 'poor child' ?

Sigh!

Lilyloo · 09/01/2009 11:06

Surely it's different if a parent posts what do you think of these names as they are openly asking for opinion! Henec baby naming thread!
This thread is in no way 'helpful' as the parents have already chosen the name , not asked for opinion and Cilit has posted it on here basically for people to take the p##s!!

MrsMattie · 09/01/2009 11:09

...with a name like Sloane she had better get used to the piss taking!

ForeverOptimistic · 09/01/2009 11:10

It sounds as if they are trying to be "hip" and different. It actually sounds like a very silly name. Hopefully they will use the middle name day to day.

castille · 09/01/2009 11:11

I came across a French girl called Sloane recently, pronouced Slow-Anne

PuppyMonkey · 09/01/2009 11:11

Well, it IS an awful name, that's just empirical fact...

Not as bad as Octavia (on another thread today).

In the spirit of fairness, I shall tell you that my dds are called Madeleine and Esme, so do feel free to take the piss out of my choices too.

seeker · 09/01/2009 11:14

I think it's about time for me to post my "Things to think about before choosing a name" advice again!

ForeverOptimistic · 09/01/2009 11:15

Madeleine and Esme are lovely names. Very pretty.

PuppyMonkey · 09/01/2009 11:18

Thank you Forever..

HelenBurns · 09/01/2009 11:24

Oh dear.

anais is sweet but sloane?

KELLYMG · 09/01/2009 11:24

VIOLET HONEY,I WOULDN'T CALL MY OWN CHILD THAT NAME AS IT WOULDN'T BE A NAME THAT I WOULD CHOOSE.
THE POINT IS, DO YOU NOT THINK THAT THAT KIND OF BEHAVIOUR IS WRONG?
WOULD YOU LIKE TO FIND OUT THAT IT HAD BEEN DONE TO YOU...PISS-TAKING IN ANY FORM?
PEOPLE LAUGHING ABOUT YOU...NOT WITH YOU?
CRAPPY UNACCEPTABLE NASTY TREATMENT

HelenBurns · 09/01/2009 11:25

KELLYMG WOULD YOU STOP SHOUTING PLEASE IT IS CONSIDERED VERY RUDE AND MAKES YOU LOOK THICK. THANKYOU

PuppyMonkey · 09/01/2009 11:27

Caps lock stuck I reckon...

HelenBurns · 09/01/2009 11:28

No she does it on purpose, easier for her to read she says - just harder for everyone else

gives me a headache!

beanieb · 09/01/2009 11:28

Doesn't shouting back make you look even thicker?

HelenBurns · 09/01/2009 11:28

PROBABLY

HelenBurns · 09/01/2009 11:29

but she might be able to read it better

ok - the shouting was something that could be overlooked, the personal insults are not acceptable though!

I think she just feels a bit threatened that someone else is shouting too.

(do you think she can read this?)

HelenBurns · 09/01/2009 11:36

Ooh it worked! thanks Kelly. I can read your posts now.
