Gabriel

MuchLessTiredNow · 07/01/2009 19:10

don't like either, tbh - Rudi is lovely, although my boys would hav a field day with it in the playground.

Saul! I love Saul. I'd love to meet a baby Saul. I really like Leo too btw, that'd be a lovely combo of names.. Saul matches Leo better imo.

Saul is old testament, and Gabriel is new. This is not a big deal, just explaining why I think Leo and Saul being more equal in length sound like brothers.

MrsMattie · 07/01/2009 19:49

Both gorgeous names, but I prefer Saul by a whisker. I had this on my list (Leo is also lovely - you have good taste).

bluebump · 07/01/2009 20:36

I like Saul, and Rudi that someone mentioned although not on your list!

numberthree · 07/01/2009 21:26

Thanks for all your replies, seems to be about equal! Lovely comments on Leo's name, we also have an Eliza... At least we're down to the final two boys names now, has only taken 8 months!!

I love both. DS is Gabriel but Saul was on our shortlist too. When he appeared, he just looked more Gabriel-ish. Wait and see what your LO looks like!

Springflower · 07/01/2009 22:44

Saul for me

saulsmum · 08/01/2009 10:51

Obviously I am biased but if you do choose Saul be prepared to have the following conversation forevermore:

What's his name?
Saul
Eh? Paul?
No, Saul.
Sol?
No, Saul. S. A. U. L

And then there was the daft woman recently who said 'Saul? Never heard that before. Is it new or did you make it up?'

pgwithnumber3 · 08/01/2009 10:56

I had Gabriel and Saul as my two names when I was pregnant with DD2 (didn't know the sex), Saul was because my lovely brother is Paul and Gabriel because I like it.

What I find with Saul is that it is a MAN's name more than a child's iyswim? But all boys grow into men so maybe you are better going for name that is very mannish. With Gabriel I find it a bit more of a childish name.

I like both, I doubt Saul is everyone's cup of tea but I like it because it is different and a strong name.

LoveMyLapTop · 08/01/2009 10:58

LIke both but Saul is better imo, esp for a grown up!

I like Saul but prefer Gabriel

pgwithnumber3 · 08/01/2009 12:56

Ratbunny, have you come across anyone in real life who has not liked it and told you? We had quite a few from people when we mentioned we liked it.

NotSoRampantRabbit · 08/01/2009 13:01

Thanks

gegs73 · 08/01/2009 13:03

Saul is a great name. Wish I'd of thought of that one for DS2. Don't like Gabriel as its abit girly sounding for my liking and I'm not sure how well it would go down in the playground!

devonsmummy · 08/01/2009 13:39

prefer Saul.
there's a Saul at DS's playgroup and he is a lovely little boy.

MrsMerryHenry · 08/01/2009 13:40

Gabriel rocks

Great name choices, girly!

MorocconOil · 08/01/2009 13:51

Gabe is a great shortened version of Gabriel.

Sadly some children do make fun of the name saying it's 'gay'. However this gives you the opportunity to enter into a discussion about how it's ok to be gay.

Around christmas there's a bit of teasing about Angel Gabriel, and how angels are girls. However children will always find something to tease each other about. I wouldn't let playground teasing put you off such a cool name.

saulsmum · 08/01/2009 14:52

Nobody's ever said to my face that they don't like it but I wouldn't care anyway! It's just the mispronounciations that get annoying.
Saoul is another one. God knows why.

zebedee1 · 08/01/2009 15:14

Both fabulous names and am putting both on my list for (not yet conceived!) DS2!
Saul can't be shortened but if you have Gabriel he may end up being called Gabe, do you like that?
