I just cannot decide on a name! Names I like today I tend to go off tomorrow!!

I like:

Emma
Bethany
Holly

DP doesn't like any of these as he thinks they are too boring.

She is due in March and at this rate she will be Baby Barton! Not good!

Melissa Barton makes me think of Mischa Barton which I personally wouldn't like though your dh might

OrmIrian · 05/01/2009 14:51

Idony
Alethea
Miranda
Martha
Phyllis

Just random names I like

LiffeyAnnaLivia · 05/01/2009 14:51

Emma 0k but prefer Gemma or Jemma Barton. Jemima Barton.
Bethany Barton doesn't sound great. Maybe Elizabeth Annie with NN Bethany?
Holly - ok but a bit blah. Polly is nicer imo.

FairLadyRantALot · 05/01/2009 14:51

Emma- not so keen
Holly- kinda cute
Bethany- pretty
Melissa- really quite like

How about:
Shana
Anoushka
Tatyana
Tara
Lara
Mia
Eleanor

LiffeyAnnaLivia · 05/01/2009 14:52

Melissa is yuck but if you cross Melissa with Bethany you get Melanie which is much prettier.

shootfromthehip · 05/01/2009 14:53

Clara, Elizabeth (Lizzie or Beth- not too keen on Bethany), Imogen, Aimee?

His latest is Clare!

Who wants to come round and slap my DP? I'm too tired and lazy to bother!

I love Emma, I always wanted to name my daughter Emma but DP and I have a couple of Emma's in our social groups and they're not exactly the kinda gals we want our darling daughter turning into so he says he just can't.

I quite like Emily which he likes but again, it just isn't very me.

What about Amy?

Zebraa · 05/01/2009 15:13

My name is Zoe so can't name her that, but it is obviously the coolest name on the list so far

I like Emma and Beth but not Bethany. Holly is okay but there are so many of them. Beth is a favourite of mine at the moment.

Zebraa · 05/01/2009 15:17

We just take the piss out of each others name list to the point where we're just laughing at each other instead of actually picking a name!

My DS says cara, his first mumble of a word (we think he means car!) so DP is determined we're calling her something cara. I don't like it, it's getting silly now! His Mum is called Elsie, and I love that name but I haven't suggested it because he would want to and think my Mum would feel a bit disheartened but in my defence, her name is rubbish!

I like Amy , but I also really like Jennifer or Lara

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 05/01/2009 15:18

my DD is a Bethany so i think thats a lovely name!!

Also like mellisa which has been mentioned, and like your last suggestion of Amy...

with an odd sounding surname the only girls names we found that will go with it are names ending with a 'y' so DD2 (due april 09) will be a Ruby...

Helsbels4 · 05/01/2009 15:21

How about....

Ciara

Emilia

Amy

Oh I don't know!!!

MadameCastafiore · 05/01/2009 15:24

Harriet

Esme

Matilda

They are my fave names for girls.

Phoebe Miel Barton

Zebraa · 05/01/2009 15:49

Quite like Matilda but DP only likes Tilly.

I quite like Tilly but it's just a bit nicknamey.

joyfuleyes · 05/01/2009 16:00

Melissa is lovely.

How about Clara if he likes Clare? An absolutely beautiful classic name.

I don't like nicknamey names, Matilda is geat, Tilly not.

Zebraa · 05/01/2009 17:22

My short (whatever!) list is:

Emma
Violet
Elsie
Rose
Rebecca
Erin

The only one DP will agree to is Elsie - can I have Elsie Emma - does that sound nice? Or ridiculous?

I am determined to have Emma!!!

OP posts:
glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 05/01/2009 19:48

Elsie Emma sounds nice to me....

Elsie was also on our shortlist for DD2 but as both our mums have the same middle name we were using that as our middle name and Elsie didn't go well with it... However DH's Gran is called Elsie, and thats also what made me think of Elsie for her.

mogwai · 05/01/2009 20:22

Orla

delphinedownunder · 06/01/2009 10:01

If you like Emily, what about Amelie?
Or instead of Holly, what about Clover?

VerifiedLU4097 · 06/01/2009 12:18

Ooh! How about Tilda (will carry nicely into professional adulthood) but Tilly for short? that will satisfy your DH- as its closer to Tilly than Matilda which personally I think no teenage girl is going to thank you for that name, and you quite like Tilly.

Zacksmummy · 06/01/2009 12:23

If you like Emma then how about Gemma or Jemma to make it a bit more unusual. You could still have Elsie as a middle name...
Gemma Elsie
Jemma Elsie

I'm thinking of Gemma for myself if I have a girl this time around to go with Zack. Also like Lucy though and completely stuck for a boys name!
