Dil-ith, I think.

I love Meredith - it's our first choice, and we both love Merry for her nn, and also love Ellwyn.

My sister is a Sian and loves it, most poelpe know how to say / spell it now (although she was Stan to many people in her childhood LOL)

Alys, Meagn, Rhian,Cerys / Carys all common in the babies at our school, a few Serens on here but none I have actually met in RL Wales LOL

As an English person who used to live in Wales, I love Elin and Carys.

Rhiannon always makes me think of the Fleetwood Mac song, but I think that is me showing my age!

Takver · 02/01/2009 18:39

DDs school friends/classmates include
Ffion (but very heavily used round here), Buddug (but not so good outside of Welsh speaking areas!), Seren, Catrin
I also like Eleri, Llinos, Bethan, Megan
There are books of Welsh baby names if you want a really huge list . . .

SuperBunny · 02/01/2009 18:46

If I had a girl, I would love a Seren or maybe Carys or Angharad.

If you don't live in Wales, avoid Bethan unless you want her to always be called Bethany. And Sian can be problematic too.

notsofarnow · 02/01/2009 18:46

my daughter is Rhiannon, there is also a seren, delyth, Bethan in her class my friends dd is Eleri but all already suggested.

Isaidkissmeunderthemistletoe · 02/01/2009 18:51

How about

Genevra

I went to school with a girl with this name and thought it was so pretty

gwenny740 · 02/01/2009 22:52

Just be careful if you live outside Wales. I do and had a very interesting time testing names out on people before children were born. As I am used to reading Welsh words, I couldn't see how names like Eleri, Nia, Eira, Catrin, Elin etc could be said incorrectly - but you would be suprised!!!
We went for Anwen Carys in the end (and she gets called Olwyn, Ann, and most the one that gets on my nerves the most is AnwYn - especially by my MIL!! Grrrr. Can't she tell the difference between an E and a Y?????? But there are so many beautiful Welsh names, you'll be able to choose a really individual gorgeous name.

aidansyummymummy · 02/01/2009 23:37

but how do you say Elin?

gwenny740 · 02/01/2009 23:42

L in is the easist way to write it.

aidansyummymummy · 02/01/2009 23:49

thank you..always wondered!

SAEJ · 03/01/2009 09:40

Avalon.

BikeRunSki · 03/01/2009 17:10

Of all the names sugguested here, I am surprised that anyone asked how to pronounce "Elin" - it's totally phonetic!

Raindog · 03/01/2009 17:26

Ceredwen

chequersandroastedchestnuts · 03/01/2009 17:27

The Bethan being called Bethany thing in England is true but also gives the option to be called Beth which is very hard to get wrong.

Only ever heard Bethan pronounced Bethun in S Wales. Beth-Anne drives me mad!
