DP doesn't really like any of the girls names I've come up with - can you give me fresh inspiration?

Well it's naming time again and it's always a bit tricky because we're a bilingual family. I've been making lists of potential names, I think we're getting somewhere with boys names. Girls, however, names is providing a bit of a challenge.

DP doesn't like any of the names I've come up with and hasn't had any ideas himself yet. The only one we both like (ish) is Renata, but neither of us is wild about it... Luckily I'm not due until the beginning of June.

I'm hoping you good ladies can provide a bit of fresh inspiration and help! Here, in no particular order, is my girls list, just for an idea of the sort of thing I seem to go for...

Mathilda
Vivienne
Cordelia
Natascha
Saskia
Ramona
Natalia
Otillie
Elodie
Rosalie
Madelief
Renata
Olivia/olive
Leonora
Eugenia
Audrey
Josephine
Maeve
Amelia
Dulcie
Jemima
Clarissa
Tahlia
Claudia
Mable

DD is Isabella, luckily it's not at all popular here (Holland) ATM

So, is anyone up for a challenge?

I've sais this before but if I had a daughter I would call her Nancy.

Just love that name.

babylovessanta · 23/12/2008 21:55

I like Nancy too.

BabyTalk13 · 23/12/2008 22:45

I like quite a few of your names but LOVE Saskia, always have done, so maybe Sasha?!
Kara, Nancy, Charlene, Jenavieve, Madison, Annabella, Alissa, Astrid, Kashkia/Kashka, Zuzanna

Dottoressa · 23/12/2008 22:49

I think your taste in names is similar to mine. DD has two of your list-names as her middle names!

I would drug your DH into agreeing to Ottilie (that's how I'd spell it - but that may be the German version?) or Cordelia. Cordelia was on my shortlist, but my DH vetoed it!

(That said, I did give him a choice of four names I knew he would hate and one - my favourite - that he would tolerate. on the grounds that I might get my way. It worked!!)

Dottoressa · 23/12/2008 22:51

Henriette? I worked with a Dutch one once, and she was lovely.
Augusta? If I had another DD, I would put that on my shortlist. I think I'd put Gertie on it, too. Maybe this is why DH won't have any more DCs?

Dottoressa · 23/12/2008 22:52

Oh, and Horatia? I love that one...

thumbElf · 23/12/2008 22:56

Marisa
Karina

Georgia
Heidi
Helga
Frieda

or, if you want to be really different,
Tsarina

pramspotter · 23/12/2008 23:00

Kerissa or Carissa? I know one of each spelling.

BabyTalk13 · 23/12/2008 23:06

I like pramspotters ones!

Saskia, Ottilie, and Cordelia are some of my favourites too. Saskia is top of my list really, I'm keeping up the pressure but TBH I can't see DP going for it!

I like Alexandra (as well as Alexander for a boy),Astrid and Veronica unfortunately they are all names I can't use...

Also so liking Henriette/Henrietta and Georgia.

Keep them coming, there is hope Thank you!

Allegra

Fimbo · 24/12/2008 09:46

Flora

NorktasticNinja · 24/12/2008 16:54

Mmmm, Allegra is nice enough but it reminds me of a car. Is there one called that?

Too much choice there. You need to find a way of eliminating some of them.

We had a baby girl, unamed until a day or two before the six week deadline. We'd had a name planned and went off it.

We downloaded some huge list and then submitted it to a series of criteria. Eventualy, we ended up with just a few to choose from. It worked.

SnowOfHands · 24/12/2008 17:04

Well dd's name is on your list, as are my other two favourite names.

You have excellent taste.

Frieda, as suggested above, is lovely.

NorktasticNinja · 24/12/2008 17:16

Well, y' see, the idea was that I'd make a 'long list' and we'd edit it together (hopefully adding ideas from DP), but he vetoed almost all of them. We both have many criteria, unfortunately they are largely mutually exclusive. Aaaarrrgggh!

Of the names I listed in the OP DP would tolerate:

Renata (I don't mind it but don't like it much either)
Olivia (but only if she's known as Olivje, I'm not too keen)
Claudia (same as Renata)

I refuse to remove Saskia from my list of hopes but it's a big NO from DP. So, we basically have no real options, hence asking for more names

We have only 36 hours after the birth in which to register the baby, name and all. I really do need to have it sorted (or at least down to two or three names) before he/she comes. Thankfully I've still got 5 months...

I'm friends with a dutch Marian pronouonced like mari-anne i like it but then i love the name mari (pronounced with an a like apple, not like the virgin mary)

OutNumbird · 24/12/2008 17:48

Alexandra, Cassandra, Isadora, Sofia, Victoria, Diana, Helena, Maria, Susannah, Savannah, Deborah, Margarite, Thomasina, Michaela, Nicola, Rosalind, Harriet, Daniella, Catalina, Katrina, Angelina, Juliana, Maricela, Gabriella, Carolina, Charlotte, Sarafina, Josefina, Louisa, Noelle, Jessica, Melissa.

Mostly a lot easier to spell than OP's list (seems to have lots of silent letters in it, maybe those are right spellings in Dutch?).

Sorry, Renata sounds like a make of car!!

OutNumbird · 24/12/2008 17:52

Claudia is my favouite on your list of 3, btw, Claudia is a champion name.

Clarrissa, Laura??

BoccaDellaNativita · 24/12/2008 18:00

Miranda
Beatrice/rix (or maybe not in the Netherlands?)
Viola
Camilla
Imogen

MadameCastafiore · 24/12/2008 18:04
