I'm trying to come up with some traditional names that are recognisable, but not overused. I like anything with a slightly elegant, Regency or Victorian feel. What do you think of my ideas so far? Any other suggestions?

Henrietta
Georgiana
Charlotte
Lucinda
Beatrix
Flora
Jemima
Cecily
Alice
Cle mentine
Arabella

yes but it is forever associated with Tiffanaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay from eastenders and the chav jewellers (as they have become)

LiffeyCanSpellGeansaiNollaig · 18/12/2008 16:37

That's exactly what my mum says! TO me, names like Millie, Lily and Ruby are Victorian, just like Florence, Annabel and Beatrice. But my mtoher is old enough to remember maids born during Victorian era, and she categorises them entirely differently.

CountessDracula · 18/12/2008 16:38

Oh yes Lily another one defo

Anna8888 · 18/12/2008 16:38

Not if you are not in the Eastenders watching classes or the Tiffany jewellery consuming classes, either. Anyway, no-one will know what happened in Eastenders in a few years from now.

I know a couple of very intellectual-type Tiffany's (nicknamed Tiffy btw).

CountessDracula · 18/12/2008 16:38

in France?

LiffeyCanSpellGeansaiNollaig · 18/12/2008 16:39

Countess, were Flora and lydia maids' names?? I wouldn't have guessed that! So give me some lady of the house names!

Anna8888 · 18/12/2008 16:39

No Cambridge intellectual families

CountessDracula · 18/12/2008 16:39

And I am sure there are intellectual Shazzas but that is not to say that the name qualifies...

LiffeyCanSpellGeansaiNollaig · 18/12/2008 16:40

I think it would take nobody less than the daughter of prince William (one day) to make Tiffany seem middle class!

Marne · 18/12/2008 16:40

Ilove the name Lily, dd2 was almost Lily and our dog is now called Lily.

Anna8888 · 18/12/2008 16:41

I very much doubt there are intellectual Shazzas. Not the same class of name at all

CountessDracula · 18/12/2008 16:42

Anna, Tiffany is NOT acceptable these days I promise you!

Get back to your frenchy things now there's a dear

Sorry I am demob happy my job finished tomorrow YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

jujumaman · 18/12/2008 16:42

I think Lucinda Charlotte is v pretty

if your surname is something like Jenkins

If it is Fortherington Thomas it would be a bit much

Catherine/Katherine/Catharine/Kathryn etc was really popular when I were a girl and everyone cycled about on pennyfarthings and wore bustles but you never hear it now. Time for a revival. Ditto Sarah, have never come across a Sarah under 30.

CountessDracula · 18/12/2008 16:44

What about Dr Shazza Fitherinblewit?
She is waaay intellectual

LiffeyCanSpellGeansaiNollaig · 18/12/2008 16:44

I know lots of Sharons who don't conform to the viz sterotype. Almost all don't I'd say. It was once just a bible name.

CountessDracula · 18/12/2008 16:46

Yes Lucinda is one
one of dd's godmothers is a Lucinda
And she is posh

Anna8888 · 18/12/2008 16:48

Not sure about Lucinda. It's too Jilly Cooper.

CountessDracula · 18/12/2008 16:49

oh she hates it
She is not called by it but by a diminuative of her maiden name.

Octavia always puts me in mind of Jilly Cooper

Anna8888 · 18/12/2008 16:50

Wasn't there a whole series by Jilly Cooper with titles that were girls' names?

Anna8888 · 18/12/2008 16:51

Emily
Bella
Harriet
Octavia
Imogen
Prudence
Lisa & Co

But there was a Lucinda somewhere - in Riders or Polo or something

CountessDracula · 18/12/2008 16:52

CountessDracula · 18/12/2008 16:53

Octavia had a very flat face
