What do you think of the name Amelie ? and can it be Milly for short.
I really love this name, what do you think ?

Like it - so much that dd was Amelie for about 2 hours ... until dh convinced me (quite rightly) that she wasn't ever going to be quite girly enough for an Amelie.

Agree that it is a bit of the moment -round here at least - I know two. But I still like it

I wonder about Amelie & Lucy as a cross-the-park-shout though (assuming you have a lucy )? Sound a little bit too samey??

No, I'm not expecting. My first try of Clomid failed, so I don't know if I ever will have another. I'm keeping my fingers crossed though.

Agree with funnypeculiar about your names being too similar, Amelia definitely sounds better with Lucy.

Amelia is lovely. Amelie is a bit trying too hard to me. And it's hard to imagine a kick-ass lawyer called Amelie (one of my name tests!)

Amelia sounds more of a proper name, if you know what I mean. It can be shortened to something sweet for when she's little too.

Hi, I just stumbled upon this board and thought I'd share with you!
I have a 10 month old girl named Amelia, we loved the name from the beginning of the pregnancy and we get lots of compliments on it.

We call her Milly too, but stick with Amelia most of the time. I guess there's no point having a pretty name if you don't use it?
(I know someone called Amelie, she has lot's of problems with people getting the pronounciation and spelling wrong......)

Her middle name is Ava which usually draws more opinions accross the board, I think that's a love it or hate it name!

Hi, I like the name Amelie and it does have various nice shortenings - Milly, Ellie, Amy etc.

I don't think you have to be French to use the name if you like it, as there are so many names in common use now in the UK which several decades ago were considered to be 'foreign'. If you like it, just go for it!

It seems to increasing in the rankings each year in the UK charts of baby names and also I have noticed in Australia.

As for the mis-pronounciation point, funnily enough, just yesterday I was speaking to a 35 yr old friend called Emily who said she increasingly gets asked if her names is spelt with an 'A' or 'E' so perhaps Amelie is getting more common now!?

I would be interested to hear from other mums of Amelie's as to whether the mispronounciation/ wrong spelling is a big problem or not?

I like Amelie and was tempted with DD2 (DH not a fan so got crossed off the list).
My mum did a "ooooh noooo, she will get smelly melly" which also put me off rather!
It is quite popular round here now, but not to the point of being "common" though.

If you like it and it works with your surname, go for it. I know you have asked for opinions and got it, but ultimately if you really like it, go for it.

Millicent is nice to shorten to milly

Both very common where I live!
Would go for whichever you feel more comfy with - Latin or French.

I prefer Emily, or Amelia. Amelie a bit too 'of the moment' for me.

I like it BUT I think that an Ameilie will be forever saying no it is not Emily.
