Moondog how on earth can you find it very offensive?.

I can find the term chavy offensive because it is.

a name is not.

It's not offensive Moondog, just not a great plan.

But ultimately who cares what we think? Once you give a child a name it pretty soon stops being the name of the person they were named after or a random set of odd syllables and just becomes who that child is.

Dunno why people post on here to be honest... I'm off.

SoupDragon · 18/11/2008 22:16

Dear god no.

Heathcliffscathy · 18/11/2008 22:17

which is fine and do what you want. but if you're ASKING for an opinion then I would put the full name on his birth certificate, giving him the option as an adult of the full or shortened version.

my son is known by a shortened version of his name. everyone calls him it. i still think it was the right decision to put the full length version on his birth certificate. to give him more choice.

Heathcliffscathy · 18/11/2008 22:18

you're on a wind up aren't you.

and i was suckered! more fool me! :D

I think it's ok - looks very abbreviated when written down which mighgt be why so many people have reacted strongly, but sounds ok. I think it's got a very strong association with Dr Dre which is fine if that's your thing.

I disagree that you have to name kids the full version of a name - Ds2's name is an abbreviated form of Henry - I didn't want to call him Henry it's not the name I liked!

I actually like Andre though.

TrinityRhino · 18/11/2008 22:19

you mean his name os cripp??

or are you going way off tangent

dre is awful as a name
IMO
it isn't a name IMHO

but you can call your kid what you like

I dont know why people ask OTHER people about naming their kids

its a presonal thing
if you want to call your kid something chavvy then go aheadm it really is noone elses business

ScottishMummy · 18/11/2008 22:19

but V predictable responses too.name threads always deteriorate into squawks of chavvy etc

Boco · 18/11/2008 22:23

There is a boy in dds class who was called Dre, but his mother changed her mind a year or two ago and renamed him Jay. Jay much better.

Dre very bad because it isn't a name. It's a bit of a name. Like calling someone Iam, or ual, or ard, or ick. You need the beginning bit to make it into a name. You can take it off again informally if you like, but start out with the whole thing.

answerifyoulike · 18/11/2008 22:24

as a 2nd choice we have Suge
pronounced shug
