What does everyone think of... Jolene?

I think it's quite cool but DH is concerned that it sounds a bit 'white trash'!

First impressions please!

I'm with your dh. Sorry.

cyteen · 14/11/2008 12:05

i quite like it actually.

Lizzylou · 14/11/2008 12:05

Agree with your DH, sorry

PuzzleRocks · 14/11/2008 12:06

I think it's beautiful.

Dragonbutter · 14/11/2008 12:06

Are you a big Dolly Parton fan?

tortoiseshellWasMusicaYearsAgo · 14/11/2008 12:06

Reminds me of either a Country and Western Song, or a character in the Archers. Not keen.

What about Josephine? MUCH more classy, and could have similar shortenings.

Fimbo · 14/11/2008 12:06

Nope don't like it

I like Dolly P... prefer the White Stripes version though!

Not keen on old-fashioned names like Josephine, but neither do I want to saddle my offspring with something embarrassing.

only known one Jolene (she was Irish)

Not keen, sorry.

Nancy66 · 14/11/2008 12:14

also in agreement with your DH.

Dragonbutter · 14/11/2008 12:14

my friend and i wrote alternative lyrics to jolene when we were teenagers.
this seems a good a time as any.

jolene, jolene, jolene, joleeeene
you're teeth are green
you're eyes are black
you look like shit
and smell like cack
jolene don't take my man away from meeeee!

i guess you're fairly safe in using the name however as i don't see a recording contract coming my way any time soon

mylene is a bit nicer

WorzselMummage · 14/11/2008 12:16

it makes me think of facial hair bleach but absolutly no idea why !

WorzselMummage · 14/11/2008 12:17

Not that i have a a mustache of course..

cyteen · 14/11/2008 12:18

mylene sounds like a manmade fibre!

Zazette · 14/11/2008 12:18

I have a friend called Jolie, which I have always thought is lovely, and would be a good short for Jolene. But Jolie might have white-trash connotations these days too, I guess...

Bubbaluv · 14/11/2008 12:19

yeah, make me think of Dolly - sorry.
What about Joelle?

Dragonbutter · 14/11/2008 12:19

cyteen, you might be right.
jolie is nice
infact it means 'nice' doesn't it?

PuzzleRocks · 14/11/2008 12:22

DB - It means pretty.

Dragonbutter · 14/11/2008 12:24

err, of course

what about jaime or jamie?

WorzselMummage · 14/11/2008 12:26

thats why

MrsBadger · 14/11/2008 12:29

Not for me

if you're not up for Josephine (which I love), how about Jodie? Josie? Janie?

Flaneuse · 14/11/2008 12:32

How about Joely (as in Richardson)? And I think Joelle is pretty too. I'm not keen on Jolene, for the reasons already given - sorry...

seeker · 14/11/2008 12:36

Jolene belongs on Tricia's sofa, I'm afraid!

Jacqueline?

Josephine shortened to Jodie?

MegBusset · 14/11/2008 12:37

Jolie makes me think of Angelina (not a good thing in my book).

Josie I quite like.
