It's just silly.

Walter ?

Was horrid 70 years ago. Still horrid now. Dennis is right.

(With apologies to all the no-doubt-lovely old Walters out there).

i dont like the trend for all the old names either really

could live with some eg Elsie,Edith( Edie)Stan

some are just plain awful though ! lol

I love the 'old lady/old man' names - think they're gorgeous. They're solid and they mean something - so much better than the Jade/Scarlett/Tia tosh of today

Interestingly Jewel appears in that list, as do 'traditional' names like Emma and Catherine, Harry and Jack.

If MN had been around in the 1920s people would still have been making the same comments from one point or another. I think we all just have likes and dislikes, however we categorise them and we all have different associations with names. That is what I find interesting about the baby names threads - if everyone liked the same as me they would be very boring to read. Sometimes I even change my mind about something I previously disliked or wouldn't have considered.

Still not sure about Walter though - although thinking about it there is Walt Whitman which is kind of a cool association.

Cadelaide do your children wear smoked rompers and tights for the boys?

I love Prue too Nbg, shame the chicken got the name really. I honestly thought after 5 boys and only 1 girl 8 years ago i would never have another girl. She is thrilled

Years ago a friend of mine met a bloke in a club -she misheard his name and thought he was called Walter.

We really took the piss.

It was a few dates later before he finally corrected her and told her he was actually called Walton. She was very

Walton???! Far more worthy of ridicule than Walter....

Fllightthebluetouchpaper · 09/11/2008 16:50

My son wears tights.

largeginandtonic · 09/11/2008 17:44

Excellent Flight we could be twins

large g&t, my dad's aunts were Florence, Mabel and Violet. Lovely names. Also Mildred and Gretchen. I like them. My x was too boring. He thought the top ten was what you used to pick a name.
