Seraphina?

Am a bit scared to post in here, have seen the bunfights which ensue! This is a bit premature as we're not planning to ttc for another 10 months. But DP and I were just discussing what names we like. We both like Thomas for a boy so that's sorted. I said I liked Seren for a girl but he's not that keen. But he's said he likes Seraphina. I'm not sure whether it's too unusual. Any opinions?

Well, I like your "boring" choices. Eldest was named after my mum, so quite poignant now. Not exciting but pretty and, of course, am glad I chose it now

unknownrebelbang · 13/10/2008 23:52

I like Seraphine.

I wouldn't have used it myself, but I like the name.

ScummyMummy · 13/10/2008 23:55

My boys have my parents' names as middles too. But I turned my mum's name into boy's revolutionary name, which I like. I think she would have liked that her name turned Marxist...

Dp seems to prefer Seraphine as well so think we'll go with that. Will probably hate it once I'm pregnant

moondog - the name Seren would not be common where you lived. It is more of a Western Turkey name and is derived from the verb 'sermek' (I know you speak Turkish )

Love Seraphina saw it recently on a business card (I'm in Spain) and really liked it

Liffey · 18/10/2008 11:23

Serphine better, but very ecclesiastical. reminds e of cherubim. probably end up sara for short.

annasmami · 18/10/2008 12:26

I love Seraphina - it is a beautiful, classy, feminine name that will 'travel' well as it's pronounced similarly in English, French and German!

Lastyearsmodel · 18/10/2008 12:49

I love the shortening Sephy. But got a DS instead.

Hey....i would like to add something here..i have a baby sister who is 6months old an my mum named her Seraphina Mae. When i first heard it i thought, What? but its a beautiful name with beautiful meanings. It means a 6 winged angel, it is also the name of a saint who made clothes for the poor and its a character out of the recent film, the golden compass....

i think that this name is beautiful 4 a little girl and is a name that she can decide to shorten if she so wishes when she is older. With such a lovely name, why would u need to find something to shorten it to anyway? my family all call my sister Seraphina, and no shorter versions....

But you are right in saying this is an unusual name, but a beautiful one at that x

Lonnie · 03/11/2008 11:38

Seraphina was on our shortlist for d3 I love it think it is a beautiful name she didnt feel like a Seraphina though and became Aoife

2Helenback · 03/11/2008 13:04

Love it love it love it!

Have been realy strugling to find any names I like at all, and now I am going to nick Seraphina. Thanks very much!

CharChar, have you any boy inspiration I can pinch in case it's a lad?

AbbeyA · 03/11/2008 13:21

I don't like it. Sarah is a beautiful name.

ermintrude13 · 03/11/2008 15:07

Serafina Pekala is the fabulous queen of the witches in Philip Pullman's Northern Lights trilogy. I think it's a pretty name, I like the phonic spelling - f for ph - and it's a cool literary connotation.

mabanana · 03/11/2008 15:08

I like it.

CharCharGabor · 04/11/2008 22:12

Just seen this again, didn't think it was still alive 2Helenback, I like Zane, Thomas and Yestin for boys. Not sure what I would use though, DP not keen on Yestin. Am still thinking about this, lucky I've still got plenty of time to think about it!

sorkycake · 21/12/2008 14:56

this is one of two names we have chosen for Dd2, due in Feb.

It doesn't mean 6 winged angel though that's slightly different Seraphim, equally as beautiful though.

When are you due ChaChaGabor?

lowrib · 21/12/2008 22:17

Lovely name, go for it.
