A lissia or Aleesha or something else? It is going to put me off the name if it turns out to be the second pronunciation.
help as it is one of the few I like!!

My friend is called Alicia and she pronounces it Al ee sia but i've heard lots of people call her aleesha.

ledodgy · 05/10/2008 21:31

I always thought it was pronounced al iss ia though which I think is the nicest!

AnotherFineMess · 05/10/2008 21:32

If you like the first pronunciation, do you like Elysia as a variant?

EyeballsintheSky · 05/10/2008 21:32

When I read about Alicia in Malory Towers or whichever one I always read it as Aleeshia so a mixture of both. Very helpful!

SharkyandGeorge · 05/10/2008 21:32

I would say it Al iss ia

bythepowerofgreyskull · 05/10/2008 21:32

our baby sitter is alicia

gladders · 06/10/2008 15:09

i like al-iss-ia but know that Americans and Australians say it the other way which do not like at all......

clairebear88 · 06/10/2008 15:15

Hi

I reacon Alicia is pronounced Ali see ah and
Alee sha is spelt Alisha. If that makes sense

I love Alicia and Alice

MrsMattie · 06/10/2008 15:16

I would say it Al-ee-sha. I always thought Alyssia was a different name.

tissy · 06/10/2008 15:43

A lissia, I would say

I have a friend who says A lish e ah

funkydude · 06/10/2008 17:43

I always think of it as A-lee-sha because of Alicia Keys.

Rose100 · 06/10/2008 20:25

A lissia

The whole Aleesha thing would put me off.

WendyWeber · 06/10/2008 20:34

Al-iss-ia

chipmonkey · 06/10/2008 20:43

My cousin is Alicia and it has always been pronounced A-LISS-ee-a in our family anyway!

llareggub · 06/10/2008 20:45

When I was very little and reading Malory Towers I used to pronounce it as "Aleka." I was clearly wrong, but cannot pronounce it the "proper way" as if sounds round to me!

FabioCatello · 06/10/2008 20:46

Alissia
Aleesha if you're forrin, perhaps.
I know 2 who are Alissias.

llareggub: How bizarre!! I used to pronounce it exactly the same way as you. In fact I loved it the way I prononuced (don't now but love Al-ee-sia) and wanted to call any future girls Aleka!!! Glad it wasn't just me!!

LynetteScavo · 06/10/2008 20:52

I say Aleesha.

My mum says Alyseesia.

bikerunski · 06/10/2008 20:53

Aren't Alicia and Aleesha actually different names? What would I know, I'm just plain old Alice.

I'd say that Alicia is pronounced Alis-e-ah
