Aaargh, having baby tomorrow and DH changing his mind!!

Bloody men!!

For ages we have decided to call baby either Toby or Sebastian. Now I have asked him a million times for other suggestions but he has come up with NOTHING!!!

Now after talking to some random woman at work he has decided he LOVES the name Christian/Kristian and wants to call the baby this. Talk about last minute!!!

Now I don't dislike the name but my heart is set on Toby and even though I like Christian I don't like the thought of it being shortened to Chris.

So, any opinions on Christian???

From your names, I prefer Sebastian tbh.

Christian is ok, definitely spelt with C rather than K. It was pretty popular here in Germany for a while, lots of 30somethings called Christian.

You could just wait and see if he looks like a Sebastian or a Christian

Use Christian as a second name maybe? I'm with you, I think Toby and Sebastian are both far nicer names than Christian. Obviously Sebastian Christian sounds a bit ridiculous but Toby Christian sounds fine (imo obv).

I read the thread title before reading the topic it was in and thought your dh had changed his mind about having the baby

I remember a Radio 4 play where parents wanted to call their son Sebastian. The grandad sputtered (think broad Yorkshire accent)'SEBASTIAN?! SEBASTIAN?!, what kind of name is THAT? No wonder Seb Coe was a fast runner with a name like Sebastian!'

That said, I used to go on lots of French exchanges and it is a very popular name in France. Christian is nice, but I have the above broad Yorkshire reaction to it....

I prefer Christian. I know boys with all these names - Toby and Sebastian are drippy and Christian is a cool dude whe never gets called Chris! But that's just me putting connotations onto the names because of the people I already know.

Toby got called 'Toby jug' all the time at school.

ooh nooo, don't let him replace Toby or Sebastian with Christian. Christian is a bit camp imo - your other choices are lovely.

Toby is a slang word for dick in Scotland, so gives a whole new meaning to the restaurants Toby Carvery

I prefer Toby or Sebastian. Not that it's any of my business! Personally I think that the person who - carries the baby around for 9 months, gives birth, and then has the baby latched on for breastfeeding for months after that - gets the casting vote. Your DH obviously doesn't have any problems with Toby or Sebastian or he would have voiced them long ago.

I think Toby is the better name of all of them. Christian sounds a bit old fashioned!!

I have always loved the name Christian and like FortyPlus, the people I know who are called it are confident and cool and never shortened to Chris.

Are you or your DH Christian? Only because I always think of it in terms of it's origin ie follower of Christ. Or maybe that's just me as no one else seems to have the same association

I really really like Christian - my mum's best friend has a son called Christian and he is a hottie Doctor! Underused name so you would be amongst the common lot. Toby a bit wimpy imo and Sebastian is nice but still prefer Christian.

I thought the same thing as fortyplus, then I noticed the topic.

My brother is called Christian (my mum is one, he isn't) when he was a teenager everyone called him Chris, now they don't. I do really like the name.

I don't think DH will go for Sebastian so it will be a straight choice between Toby and Christian. Funny how some people think toby sounds wet as that is dh's problem with it - i think it sounds like a mischievious little boy. not sure I could imagine a tiny baby called Christian???

Honestly I'm just biased because I only know two Tobys and they're both... how can I put it kindly? A bit unusual. Neither of them are mischievous - unless you count one of them hurling his wendy house down the stairs in temper when he was about 8!

I have a Toby,not drippy!To be honest I always think of Christians being a bit drippy althouhg the only one we know is called Kit for short

I have a 5 month old Sebastian (known as bas usually) and I get lots of positive feedback about the name- excepting my Dad who only liked my eldests name, Samuel. Hard cheese then dad

All that matters is what you and your dh like; everyone else will be fine. It's not as if you're considering calling him totty-magnet is it?

Obviously as a nice bloke I get on with who is also sexy he's also gay, but gawd is he sexy!

There does seem to be a lot of Tobys around at the moment -not sure if thats a problem for you or not?

I like it. Tis my BIL's name. He is very tall, very attractive, and reasonably successful in life.
