I have an Anna but what should I have next?

I love Anna because it is simple, pretty, classic and gives no hints as to her background (i.e. it is niether poncey or "chav). I want a similar name for DD2 (due soon).

My first choice would be Rose or Rosa but that is a no-no due to our last name.

I just can't find the right name. I wanted another shortish name but can't find one I like. As you can see below I have reservations about every name on my current shortlist, I like them all but don't love them. Help! This is so hard.

Catherine (bit I fear Anna and Catherine is a little dull)
Sophia (not so classic?)
Alexandra (will be shortneded to Alex, too boyish?)
Isabella (not sure about Izy)
Ella (too "now")
Julia (too 80s?)

I would have Kate

Anna and Kate - lovely

Gobbledigook · 15/09/2008 12:46

I know TONS of Isabella, Isabelle, Isobel, Izzy - v.v popular

mellyonion · 15/09/2008 12:46

i have a zoe....

anna was our other fave name....am keeping it for next time...if there is one!

Gobbledigook · 15/09/2008 12:47

Anna was my girls name through all 3 pregnancies - had 3 boys though!

Buda · 15/09/2008 12:48

Actually I think Julia goes really well with Anna.

whatshallicallDD2 · 15/09/2008 12:50

I am quite hard to please.
Mary - nice, but it does not grab me. Will add it to the list and ask DH.#
Erin - too American
Lucy - used by family already
Millie - OK as a abbreviation but I hate Camilla and Millicent. Maybe Amelia is OK but DH not keen.
Alexa - DH thinks it is too American. I think he is confusing it with Alexis but he will not budge.
Ruth - my aunt's name but I love it.
Eve - too delicate. My kids are all going to be over 5'10''
Edith - too trendy
Stella - to McCartney
Lily - LOVE it but both DH and I have nieces called Lily.
Martha - there was a horrible Martha at school with me and it makes me think of the word barf.
Claire - too 80s I think. But sort of nice.

Sorry! This is why I need help.

Gobbledigook - I think Anna and Kate is lovely too but is not a tad boring and unimaginative? Are there not thousands of families already with two daughters called Anna and Kate? I just don't know.

Sarah?

medogsarebarking · 15/09/2008 12:52

Emma or Emily?

Gobbledigook · 15/09/2008 12:52

I don't know of any Kates.

I know one Anna.

This is an area where people use quite traditional names I'd say. I know a couple of Katies but not Kate.

I don't think it's boring - they are lovely, classic, timeless names.

All my boys have the same sort of timeless names - if people think they are boring I don't really care!

cece · 15/09/2008 12:53

I think Kate is lovely and goes well. How about Clara or Jane?

Buda · 15/09/2008 12:54

Oh - have a friend who has a DD called Alexandra and know as Ali which is nice.

Caroline?

whatshallicallDD2 · 15/09/2008 12:57

Sarah - sister's name
Emma - love it but I think Anna and Emma are just too similar
Emily - name of brother's very drippy fiance
Clara - interesting. will dicuss with DH. need to get over image of "long distance Clara"
Jane - too plain (even though i like plain names)
Caroline - too 70s I think. i will mention it to DH but I don't love it.

Emma is lovely, not contrived, not chav not pncey, just classic, and suits Anna very well.

Tigerschick · 15/09/2008 12:58

I was going to suggest Kate/Katie/Katy but you've already discussed that.

I like Clara out of the other suggestions ...

Reginaphilangy · 15/09/2008 12:59

Clara
Margaret
Elizabeth
May
