I have an Anna but what should I have next?

I love Anna because it is simple, pretty, classic and gives no hints as to her background (i.e. it is niether poncey or "chav). I want a similar name for DD2 (due soon).

My first choice would be Rose or Rosa but that is a no-no due to our last name.

I just can't find the right name. I wanted another shortish name but can't find one I like. As you can see below I have reservations about every name on my current shortlist, I like them all but don't love them. Help! This is so hard.

Catherine (bit I fear Anna and Catherine is a little dull)
Sophia (not so classic?)
Alexandra (will be shortneded to Alex, too boyish?)
Isabella (not sure about Izy)
Ella (too "now")
Julia (too 80s?)

Ruth and Sarah are nice but as mentioned below they are not possiblities as they are the names of close relatives (and not ones I want to name my DD after).

Megan - Love it. Will add to list.
Imogen - I like it, DH does not.
Gracie - Not my cup of tea.
Hattie - Sweet but DH will veto, I just know he will.
Lara - Not my cup of tea.

Maria

I know three people with Annas. One also has a Laura and an Eleanor, one has a Catherine and a Ruth, and the other has a Georgia.

I have an Anna too! Love the name for all the reasons you list and would be stuck for a name for DD2 (if only ... still TTC) so watching your thread for inspiration.

Of the names mentioned mind if DH and I's list if we ever conceive again:
Megan and Laura?

Love the name Clara too, but it's not right for us because of family and friends already called Clara.

ps Also love the name Anna because it's a palindrome.

WendyWeber · 15/09/2008 14:09

I know an Anna & Sally combination (I may even know two but I just can't quite remember what the younger daughter of the second pair is called)

turquoise · 15/09/2008 14:09

I like Ella, Clara, Kate from your list. All go well with Anna.

Or:

Cecily
Tess
Nina

I love Anna.

I would call her sister Eve, Joy, Grace, Flora, Thea, Clara, Maeve, Jemma, Elsa, Ellen (but not Ella)

I like Jane and Nina but that's too many Ns.

Emma and Anna mgiht be confused, if you are shouting up the stairs "emma, Phone!" they both might come running! Gemma or Jemma would work well with Anna though.

HonoriaGlossop · 15/09/2008 16:15

I think Mia and Francesca are both lovely and go very well with Anna....

TheNaughtiestGirlIsaMonitor · 15/09/2008 16:20

ps, Fimbo, I love Rachel. It's gorgeous and I can't understand hwy some of the Hannahs out there aren't Rachels if you see what I mean (nice name though Hannah is).

I think Eve would be fabulous with Anna. Two gorgeous pallindromes!! WHY do you have to be small to use it?! I'm a shortie myself and I don't get that! I mean, Grace for example, I think you have to be thin! so i SEE where you're coming from, btu I don't agree Eves have to be small! A Fat grace would be embarrassing thoguh

Beth is nice. Btu Anna and Beth kind of sounds like it could be one name, I've heard of Americans using Annabeth as one name.

Fimbo · 15/09/2008 16:25

Thank you NaughtiestGirl. Rachel is the only name I ever liked for a girl (poor dh, didn't have much option for anything else!), when I called her it 10 years ago, it was very very popular, I thought she would have loads in her class but she is the only one.

PoorOldEnid · 15/09/2008 16:28

Eve, Laura, Mary, sarah

beansontoast · 15/09/2008 16:29

i like anna and katharine....for personal reasons

sakurarose39 · 15/09/2008 16:29

Maya is lovely (biased) - universal, used the world over as a name....
