After my partner shunning all 50 names on my list (except Tallula) and after me cringing at his few offerings (except Eden) we are now down to these 2 names.I love them both. Just don't know which way to go. So here I am.......

Both the Edens I know are boys - they are 28 & 19 - when did it become a girl's name, or is it unisex?

norkmaiden · 15/09/2008 19:16

Eden

hecate · 15/09/2008 19:16

It is more commonly a boy's name, but sometimes people use it for a girl.

nuthacuppatea · 15/09/2008 19:22

I think it's pronounced Ee- den for a girl and Eh-den fo a boy. It's def' unisex though which could be handy if they got the scan wrong...Eden George...yes quite like that

Well, both the Edens I know (my sister's BIL & DD's ex-bf)pronounce it like the paradise.

nooka · 15/09/2008 19:47

Surely Eh-den is actually Aiden?

SparklyGothKat · 15/09/2008 19:55

we pronounce it 'EeDen' For Ds2's middle name

BabyBaby123 · 15/09/2008 22:20

Eden - Tallulah reminds me of the chicken thing on Maisy

teddycat · 15/09/2008 22:30

i love tallulah but the song always pops into my head - "my name is tallulah my first rule ofthumb" (i love that film) but i seriously do like it, also like lula. Also i dont think anyway younger than 30 would think of bugsy malone.

Lunette · 15/09/2008 22:33

Tallulah.

Mamazon · 15/09/2008 22:41

I love them both.

KAEKAE · 16/09/2008 00:10

TBH I don't think it matters how you spell it, from my experience people can never spell it anyway! lol!

seeker · 16/09/2008 00:20

Eden pronounced Eh-den for a boy is actually an ancient Celtic name Aiden!

AND THEN.....
The girl's name Tallulah \t(a)-llu-lah\ is of choctaw origin, and its meaning is "leaping water". Also possibly derived from a Gaelic name meaning "fruitful woman".

I like the name Eden. It used to be very unusual but is gaining in popularity.

I like Talulla as well.

I find it really scary that people make such strong class judgements about names. I hate the class system anyway, but to hear someone describing a baby's name as 'chavvy' is really sad.

The reality is that if you met someone with an incredibly posh accent and private school education with that name it would be judged as acceptable. Sometimes the 'chav' thing reminds me of the propaganda that Hitler put out about Jews - go to the Imperial War Museum and look at the Holocaust exhibition.

A bit strong maybe, but the working class are being de-humanised. It wouldn't be acceptable to do the same on race or any other basis.

Jojay · 16/09/2008 18:49

Tallula. gorgeous

AussieLou · 18/09/2008 13:48

I loved the name Tallulah but then heard about the case in New Zealand where a 13 year old girl took her parents to court to have her name legally changed as they had named her Tallulah Does The Hula In Hawaii.
I kid you not.
Daughter won.
Not to sure about Eden though. Sounds a lot like Eatin'.

Sycamoretree · 18/09/2008 13:54

Eden .

Tallulah - no offence, but I think of the hussy in Bugsy Malone.
